the beetle breather is often used on 16vt conversions. if it clears then alls good. gotta say I have never had an issue with oil coming from anywhere other than the dipstick base seal
AAN camcover breather relocation.

Pop, how have you determined that the oil is not coming up from the crankcase port?

Nice find Andy!
well i was just back from street race with the newer 2.0TFSI.i checked the motor oil level and topped up until the max mark.
i had a lot of redline shift and high speed cruising.when i got home i pulled off the dipstick.i found 200ml of the motor oil was missing.
i opened the Provent 200.i found motor oil deposited in there but not worse since i drained it back to sump but above the level with
adding the check valve on the return line.i also have some oil leak on the rear crank seal as well.
here's my car story.the car was originally automatik box.when the car was bone stock i never had oil inside the PCV issue.
i remember when i did the compression test on the tired AAN.it had 115-120psi across 5 pots.
Then i had a bad luck, the engine spun rods on the cylinder#1.i got the donor aan motor from the junkyard.unfortunately,
someone removed the spark plugs and had AAN motor sitting on the junkyard for years.the result all the cylinder wall
had rust.the cylinder#3 was the worst.it had a very bad scored on the cylinder#3.i had no choice since the aan motor
was very rare on here.i needed to use the donor motor anyway.this first donor got 150-160psi when i did the compression test.

the engine was running flawlessly for 150,000kms.until i had done the manual gearbox conversion.
if someone ever driven you realized the car pulled differently day and night between automatic VS manual UrS cars.
i always noticed there's some 100-200ml motor oil inside the X-pipe and finally the valve guides gave up.
the car was running smoke.i decided to swap
the aan motor(2nd donor) again.
the second donor was taken from the low miles UrS4.it still had the stock paper based headgasket, stock VC gasket.
the valve cover never been opened before.
when i did the compression test on this motor. they had 168psi across 5pots.when i pushed it hard.
i usually saw some oil inside the X-pipe again.
2months later, the stock headgasket gave up.i pulled off the AAN head, put the new HG in and
decided to put the Ported n polished AAN head(Stock head that has been kept for 10years) in.
i usually saw some oil inside the Provent 200 again lol.
In Conclusion: i had 3 blocks and 3 heads.2 of 3 splited out the oil.
when i pushed really hard.especially when i did the gearbox conversion with the
big turbo(2871).Though with the healthy motor,i still see the oil splited out once
i pushed really hard on the gas pedal.one of a few I5 from Asia.Comment

where sits the oil return line from the mann provent on the engine, below or above the oil level?
normaly it must sits below oil level

Nick, the return line sits above oil level but i added a check valve.I noticed the vacuum on the sump(from PCV)
will do its job under normal driving condition with negative pressure.one of a few I5 from Asia.Comment

Wouldn't allowing more blow by gasses to exit the cam cover just compound the problem at high rpm (and oil flow) of the oil not draining back to the sump fast enough. The gasses would be travelling in the opposite direction to the oil.
Maybe better crank vents are needed as the bulk of blow by will be from the crankcase, although this may be a lot more difficult. The ONLY S2 Golf!

It's really more about moving the cam cover breather to a place where it doesn't get oil surging into it on cornering and acceleration, the stock position at the lower rear side of the cover is prone to this. Also if the pipe goes downwards and tees into the big pipe from the CC as in the original design, then if it does collect oil it's less likely to end up in the inlet or catch tank.Comment

I'm running with the crank breather only, without any breather in the head. This isn't a good solution either. On hard lauches the oil goes up in the rear crank breaher and because there isn't any other brather all fumes and pressure makes the oil throw up with pressure.
I'm going to ad a AN8/10 outlet on the front part of the cam cover.
