Strange fault code found in URS4

had a friends URS4 come in the shop recently with a no run condition. first i assumed it was either one of the crank sensors or the cam sensor. i started with the cam sensor and to my amazement when i unplugged the cam sensor the connector on the sensor fell apart so i assumed that was my problem. i soldered in a new plug off of a junk cam sensor and the car fired right up. anyhow a day later the car is back again with a no run and my buddy said the tach was jumping around so than i pointed the finger at the G28, the RPM sensor. i took the pair that was almost brand new off of my AAN swapped 4000 and installled them on the car and it fired right up again. this time i just let it sit and idle for around 10 minutes where it than just shut off. i never shut the key off or anything and i hooked my laptop to it and proceeded to scan the ECU with vag com.

the fault i found that i cannot find any information on at all. also the fault was displayed 3 times which i found really strange.
    Code:
    07687-unkonwn error code-
    open short to plus
i tried googleing it and there is absolutely nothing about this fault at all. have any of you seen this before and what was the cause of this odd fault?

It's the branch code for the state bank of India!

You might need more than vagcom..........!

Maybe an intermittant power feed problem to the ecu?

i did end up figuring out the problem. turned out that the fuel/timing chip was loose in the ECU socket. i found the issue by accident, i had the ECU out laying on the floor with the car running and i dropped my screw driver on it by accident and the car shut off. so i started the car again and tapped the ECU with my hand and it shut off again. that told me that the ECU was modded and that one of the chips had to be loose in the stocket right away. the car has an old MTM 1+ chip set and one of the super old bosch 300kpa sensors in it so its been in there for a looong time. i ended up reseating both timing/fuel chip and the boost chip and putting some hot glue on the corners to make sure they stay seated this time and that problem was solved.

Good news. I couldn't find any info about that code either.

As for "MTM 1+", real MTM software sits in a daugher ("key") board - at least the fuel and timing chip (upper board) does. No daugther board, you have a clone.

            Just sayin'

either way it was a loose chip and i figured it was MTM because the MAP sensor looked like the genuine bosch 250KPA one with the pressure number and ending part # melted out and stamped with new numbers. all other MTM ECU's ive ever seen had the encryption board and an MTM sticker on the cover along with an OEM 300KPA so i did find it a little strange. here's a picture a sensor just like the one that i found in that ECU.

G71 Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor information

Nope 300 kPa MAP sensors were available new in a box from Bosch and not just from MTM. I had one installed in my AAN ECU in 2005 at the same time I had some Stage 3 RS2 (380 crank) cloned software installed. So the fact that you have one in your ECU means nothing to what the software is. No Daughterboard, not MTM.

And the "branded" "211" and "300" was common. Bosch just reused/repurposed some extra 250 kPa cases.

I probably posted that photo to 12v.org. I know that it is part of my G71 Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor info post first written on Nov. 21, 2009:

good info! well than i have no idea what tuning was in it. there was no stickers on the chips, just some electrical tape over the UV windows on both chips. i did take a read of them and got to have a look at the BIN files eariler today. they look like someones stage 1 tune. not really much changed over stock. the main timing map looks has the last 4 RPM columns the whole way across the load scale modified, there was fuel actually removed from the lambda map, the boost mapping only had very slight modifications on the last 2 rows and the boost limiter was raised just a hair. over all a damn near close to stock file and its ECU# is 551AA, the MTM's i've seen are 551C so over all its definitely not MTM now.

MTM would never issue EPROMS with the UV window so case closed.

As for MTM = 551C, nope.

Here is a list compiled by Dmitri ("prj"):

                    551B UrS4 same as 551AA, but auto
551C UrS6 incorporates all software updates from RS2, different codebase, more diagnostics
551D UrS6 same as 551C but auto (see photos at the end of this post)

i know the break down of the ECU revisions. i always use 551C as the basis for tuning in all of my cars.
