How much, what to use to get somewhere 350-500bhp?
I've a hybrid turbo (not sure what spec) rs2 injectors and an rs2 automark ecu
Will I need anything else for a standard aby to get power?
Bigger IC?
I took them from a car I broke last year so don't know much about the parts
Going on my type 85 cq

A faster Turbo than the RS will Bend rods... Too much torque down low will kill the engine.
I had a Setup with the RS EM, Orange GT2 Bosch injectors, RS IC, K26/27/29 Turbo, 3" exhaust, 044 Bosch pump, 5 Bar FPR, 90mm Airmass, RS clutch, MTM stronger rodbolts and MTM mapped to 1,95 bar overboost Holding 1,75 to redline, made 476hp and Never had problems.
I regreted that i sold that car[emoji35]
Setup costed 6000€ 15 years ago.

No amount of repeating this will make it true.
I have personally mapped more than 20 cars on stock rods to 420-500hp and never bent a single rod.
Yet I have seen cars with stock turbos and bent rods. Knock bends rods, not boost. If you're going to fit stronger rods and have tons of knock then next thing you are going to do is eventually spin a bearing or break a piston/ring.
As has already been said by some experienced dudes on here one way is RS2 chipped for a reasonable sum. What hasn't been mentioned is drivability except by Kit. RS2 turbo is laggy low down so the best turbo for a no nonsense no lag modern newer technology turbo is the Volvo K24 7400 which will give 350bhp and super driverbility even low down.
You could always go hybrid the AET RS2 one I managed to get is the nuts, no lag spools up fast pings the rev needle round like a bike😊 nice one Kit still trying to get it booked in for custom map but is driving lovely as is
turbo brand new sc61 £550
rods approx 180 scats new
injectors 150 seimmens new
wagner tubes - 350 new
wagner rest - 1200 ish new ic, xmember, inlet
block work 200
7a cams £50
arp bolts 100
vems £650
044 pump £55
3" system 700
thats cheap as im sure you will know. i made the most of exchange rates at the time about 5 yrs ago.
i agree with prj its all in the tuning re rods. i had 2 issues along the way. cam sensor and possible but not sure head gasket and a snapped 7a cam.
you can i expect nearly triple these costs nowadays. if you have good friends with tools and knowledge it will save you lots. if yoy tune yourself itll save a bit more. all i can say is haggle, buy well and when you get a good offer take it. for me rs2 is not good value. stock bits like ic and inlet seemed ok to 400 ish. fuel pump was good for just over 300. injectors the same.
wow thats very cheap!! sweet!!! .. I already have 3inch exhaust yey.. and suspension h n r springs with bilstein shocks and porsche brakes done .. I might do arbs too.
So £3635 for 500 hp!! wow ... hmm makes me think wether I should just go all out and try stroker .. for even more.. hmm just dont know atm... I could wait and upgrade. because the car is ready..
Just the gear stick is very stiff. Will have to look into this to improve shifting.
and perhaps lightening the vehicle..

Chris, a stroker is a huge undertaking in terms of knowledge, money, effort and future maintenance.
From reading your posts, your car may be ready for it but I don't believe you are. Not wanting to burst your bubble, but trying to save you from yourself.

Dont think i like your reply... you dont know me. You dont know what i know. Or the studying ive done into these projects. Ive been away from the forum for awhile. I used to be a mechanic many years ago. You assume you know whats best for me.
Ill do what i wish to do thx.
I also dont jump into things straight off. Ill do a lot of thinking. Studying and research before i go ahead with something.

Ive got a lot of things to think about and consider if it would be feasable for my lifestyle and also and future plans.
£3600 is ambitious for that power level I think, but you might get there if you're lucky. You will probably have to sacrifice response to save money, e.g. Cheaper turbo probably won't spool or have the boost response of a more expensive unit, you can keep the stock intake manifold it will do 500+, but longer intake track again means slower response. Likewise cheap intercoolers generally don't flow very well so can introduce pressure drop etc etc. it's doable, but ultimately will probably not be as drive able as if you'd given it both barrels, know what I mean?
All the small bits also add up fast, no ones mentioned them yet e.g. Hoses, turbo lines, oil cooler etc etc.
Be realistic about the cost before you start so there are no surprises. I am £5k deep and not finished yet! My 2c

There are so many other expenses not written here...
what i bought you wont get now for that cost. id say its a 10k job now. i haven't even added in the coolers, defi gauges, eboost 2, vems egt/wb02.
i know my turbo is about 900 new now. rods about 350alex is right. dontr expect it to be cheap. im sure ive missed a fair few bits. things like better engine and gearbox mounts.
for me though id skip rs2. start with a wagner exhaust manifold and a turbo as good as you can afford, 044 pump and injectors. speccing the size of turbo is next and how its gonna be managed ie motronic or standalone. if its a stock motor and it all runs well maybe motronic. in thius case speak to prj regarding turbo types and maps he has done. it can save lots of money.
if you want a more unique project then do some research and pick parts that will work well together that you like. i wanted a tubular manifold, harder work, needs baracing crack more etc but thats what i wanted. the turbo i bought to run on a 16v originally in my corrado. the sc61 is a big laggy unit but on boost is an animal. i like it
think thats the main thing. make sure you like it and for me follwoing a generic route is no fun.
list the other expenses? i have tried to add what i can i think it would help all round if you list them i will then say if i have of havent dont that.
remember my labour costs and tuning costs are basically a few maccies and a bit of mapping/helping others
