How much, what to use to get somewhere 350-500bhp?
Well for starters you wrote " block work 200 GBP" Did you rebore ? If you did then you must have bought new pistons. That is a big expense.
Also new clutch is needed. Another big expense.
Upgraded coils - another big expense.
Head work.
Etc.
In order to write 99% down I need a few hours and I don't have time right now.
no headwork. head rebuilt though. new seals.
stock coils, voltage upped on vems
stock clutch no heavy launches. it held up, just. sre unit to go in on saloon build
skimmed pistons no rebore, weight matched rods, no honing used original rings. no issues 2 years 2 bar
im not disputing your claim of more done its just when you do these builds things pass your mind.
i spent around 1600euro for head, 1100 rods and Pistons, clutch 600, engine mashining 700euro...
and the list goes on so dont think that opening the engine is cheap...
you will be suprised how mutch Money you can spend on small parts, bolts and gaskets..
Do the job ok from begining, otherwise you risk to invest some 3 4 k and the result may not as expected. For rebuilding the engine from 0 , bigger turbo , EM, injectors, clutch kit, intercooler, exhaust , and all other stuff you will need at least 12-15 k.
Hey thx, so 12-15k... ok I will wait for the future to get that big upgrade... I guess for now a £1600 rs2 / hybrid setup looks feasable.
im going to go towards rs2 as its stronger than the volvo turbo option.. and the volvo halts at 350bhp... I already have 280-290... 350 isnt such a huge jump.. then I guess i'll look at 380/420bhp.
So will be looking for something like this within the next 6months. (ie i can buy the parts now.. but im also saving for a house... so until I get towards a nice deposit. I'll hold out....
UNless ... hmmmmm .... I could be tempted to get somethign earlier .
RS2 is the cheapest to get up and running, if you can get parts at the right price.
360bhp for £1500 is hard to beat, plus plug and play hassle free.
Obviously if you buy a dud turbo, or studs snap in the head etc costs will escalate quickly. Supporting mods can easily cost the same as just getting an RS2 setup running.
Custom mapping adds a huge cost and hassle factor to most upgrades.
Any weak links, eg old boost hoses, tired clutch etc will quickly show up and add further cost.
how much would that cost albert? is 400-450 achievable without intercooler and inlet manifold?
Because its starting to head towards ..
Ah!! stuff it Im going to build a stroker of insanity!!
Or is intercooler and inlet relatively inexpensive?
Do you have a rough price list? to give me an idea?
As I said above, changing the inlet manifold is not necessary.
A Wagner RS2 Evo intercooler will integrate with stock intake pipework and should support 450hp, probably more with ease.
Budget costs
Turbo - £600-800
Exhaust manifold - £200-600
Injectors - £250
Intercooler - £400
Clutch - £400 - 500
Fuel pump - £100
Map - £300-500
As you can see you are already heading towards £3k, without dealing with all the small items and little problems along the way....
e.g. how old are your boost and coolant hoses? If they are OEM you probably want to replace them all - £400 in silicon hoses.
Need new hose clips? another £40+
New engine & gearbox mounts £200
Larger oil cooler £200+
Ignition system probably needs some attention £200
etc etc etc
There you go, another grand spent before you've even thought about it.
If I could offer one piece of advise it would be this: have a plan and stick to it.
Panthero Coupé quattro 20vt
Indigo ABY coupé
Imola B6 S4 Avant
Just my new engine & clutch are costing me about £5k...
RS2 setup is the simplest as you can get an off the shelf map from various places and save yourself a few £. It's also bolt-on and improves the performance enough to keep things interesting.
Depends how mental you want to go but if you're running a turbo in stock location, that limits the size of the compressor for a start.

thx error!! again such vast amounts of knowledge there! thx dudes!
Which of these parts ... ie manifolds and intercoolers good for even more power further down the line?
Ie so they can be used now but also good for bigger power in the future.
So I'm also kind of future proofing incase I wish to upgrade other parts in future to hit bigger figures.. - just being curious.
You don't tend to hit a brick wall, parts just get way less efficient so you sacrifice the performance of other components.
It always best to leave some headroom so you're not pushing anything to the limit. Remember - have a plan & stick to it

The plan is to hit rs2 spec minimum, if i can hit 450bhp for a bit extra, then I would like to hit that.
Big power will be plan 2. but this will be later when I am more established with a house etc and maybe my own garage. I am hiring a garage / parking bay atm.
Thats my plan .
I could buy all the parts right now.. but -- This is my savings for a deposit for a house. So again priorities..
I am weighing things up -- like could I squeeze this upgrade in and get a house later?
though I guess If certain parts on the list become available early and are a good deal I could perhaps get the odd bit .
Anyways sorry I've waffled on.
So all these parts are good for 600+ power then? -
