VEMS = versatile engine management system.one of standalone control unit and most popular be using on I5 engine... I5=inline 5engine(3B,AAN,ABY,ADU)... 3B&ABY from audi S2,AAN from Audi UrS4,S6... ADU from Audi RS2

TFSI =Turbo fuel stratified injection on modern VAG engines..VAG refers to VW Audi group.. newer engines use the coil on plugs and by using this
on I5 engine, you could eliminate the POSs...power output stage from stock system.

coil harness...picture explains a hundred words..

w/m injection aquamist hfs3 is one of the water/methanol system ..

i started to think i have just made you more confused lol.
one of a few I5 from Asia.

            Brilliant!!
Thank you for the info I had a rough idea, needed to be sure.
            The exploration continues.

TFSI coils is the way to go then

              Hi guys,
loads of useful information in this thread!

I'm under the impression most RS2 upgrades (and beyond) are based on ABY engines. What extra modifications need to be done when starting from a 3B?
I gathered the ignition needs to be altered, but can someone explain to me why this will become a limitation?

some day I'm aiming for a gtx3071 upgrade. Any advice is welcome
what about the mapping? can the motronic stay or will I have to get a vems (anyone familiar with KMS? other recommendations?)

You don't need to change the 3B ignition, its just recommended when going for moderate power due to potential spark hop issue which can destroy an engine. As the cylinder pressures increase with more boost and aggressive timing, the mixture requires more energy to ignite, so the spark can "hop" to the wrong point in the dizzy causing nasty pre-ignition leading to bent rods / spun bearings / damaged pistons or all of the above.
People have run successfully and reliably over 500hp on the 3B with the dizzy so as I say it not a requirement.
Another thing to consider is mapping on the 3B, very few people do it now, even fewer than will map ABY/AAN/ADU and AFAIK the ECU is a lot slower than the ABY/AAN/ADU architecture. So for these two reasons most folk go the Coil-On-Plug route using an ABY/AAN/ADU ECU & software.

Internally the 3B engine is just as good, the only weakness you need to address is the headgasket, fit a steel item from ABY/AN/ADU.

There are literally hundreds of threads on the forum about going for a larger turbo & more power, GT30 turbos are very popular so do some reading

Thx for the info, totally makes sense
To avoid problems with the distributor, would it be possible to replace the distributor itself by a different type rather than changing to coils? Experiences with electronic distributors instead of the mechanical ones?

I'm sure it is but the swap to ABY setup is easy as Audi already engineered it for you, just swap some parts and you're done
