Which pump for my ABY with mods

I was advised to upgrade the fuel pump on my S2 ABY. With the ABY having as standard a 4 bar FPR does that make a difference?

I have the following modifications ready to install.

RS2 Turbocharger, RS2 Exhaust manifold, 440cc injectors, R8 coil conversion and software mod for about 360hp.

The gentleman who did the software change advised one of the following pumps
    A RS2 fuel pump
    B Bosch 044
    C Walbro 255 lph

I contact one of the local suppliers in SA and they came back with.

    1. Bosch 040 (comparative to the Walbro 255LPH)
    2. Bosch 044 (externally mounted whereas the 040 is internally mounted)
    3. I.E. Submerged 044 billet Surge tank with integrated Pump. (this gets fed by your existing oem pump)

I know nothing about pumps all I do know is.
It must suit the modifications I am making.
It must be a straight fit.
    It must be quite.

Not sure but I think if using am external pump in line with the existing submerged pump is not such a good idea.

When changing the pump must I do anything else to the fuel system?

You can mount the 044 in tank. Its a common solution and when relayed it's good for 500+ HP.
040 is also a common upgrade.
Loads of threads on this, search the forum for info.

Bosch 044 I have seen this mentioned several times but why relayed? Is there a volt drop issue?

Bosch 040 is also a common upgrade. When I checked it out on the internet it look a bit big to go in the same position.

I have looked at quite a few threads on this and I will keep looking but none seem to be conclusive on the route to take.

With the ABY having a 4 bar FPR should I be concerned as to which pump to use.

There is no conclusive route to take, there are lots of options. Personally I have a 044 in tank mounted in the 7A pump basket. Some people have noise issues with them, I can't hear mine running at all. I've not relayed mine yet but I will next time the boot carpets are stripped out. Yes there is voltage drop on the pump wiring harness, you get a lot more fuel delivery with a relayed pump. A relayed 044 will support well over 500+hp on regular gasoline.

          Thanks,

Just found a post on the voltage issue.

The basket you refer to I assume that you need to get one that suits the pump you buy.

If that is so do you know which pump will fit into the ABY basket?

Do not fit a 040, its worse than the stock pump.

Any idea why the Bosch pump adverts for the 0 580 254 044 say in line. I cannot find one advert that says in tank application.

It looks like it will be a Bosch 044 but.

I was told to use a 7A Basket? I think this is wrong as it has a 43mm dia which is wrong for the 60mm diameter Bosch 044 pump.

I think it should be the item number 3 W895 201 779H (as per the advice above)

                        And 895 201 531A. Am I correct?

Also Audi tell me 895 201 531A is now NLA.

If that is true does anybody have an alternative strainer suitable for this conversion or know were I can get a new one.

The basket is NLA anyway, so you need to get one used.

I have BTDT with an 044 into a 7A but what would I know?

                            Once again I am confused.

Advised to get the 044 with the correct basket as the pump diameter bigger than the stock S2 aby. The one I apparently need has a 60mm diameter.

Audi South Africa say they can get me this part and Audi tradition have this part advertised. So that ok.

But I cannot get the strainer 895 201 531A it is according to Audi SA NLA

Why advise to get a pump that I cannot get the rest of the spare for to make it work.

What now. Back to search function
