Urgent! K-Jet (not) running issues again

Did I have problems with my coupe quattro a few years ago when heading for the Ring, now my 90 quattro is playing up and I have a meet/track session planned on this sunday.

Hopefully here are some K-Jet experts that could point me in the right direction.

First I will explain what has been done the past few days, this was just a general check/service. The car did not have real problems:
    - new spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor
    - new air filter
    - ISV cleaned up because it ran like 2000 rpm on idle
    - throttle body cleaned up
    - K-Jet measuring flap cleaned up
    - removed gunk from the PCV system hoses
    - had the underside of the dash off under the steering wheel because there was quite a bit of play in the steering column

    - removed the K-Jet from the top of the air filter box to check the piston in there. I did this because when the engine was warm it took a long while to start due to too much petrol I persume. Cleaned the piston up, there was some scoring on the top but nothing that can be felt by hand. Put the spring back in and the piston.

    - when I removed the K-Jet from the filter box top section I did unscrew the torx bolts as well with don't actually hold the K-Jet itsself, so I put those back in. What do these torx bolts do?

All this was done at the same time and the car has not been started in between jobs.

    Now the issues:
    - car is very hard to start, overfuels by the looks of it
    - won't idle at all, also not when up to temp
    - when the throttle is released the engine dies immediately
    - during driving the battery light glows but not constantly
    - battery light blink during cranking over
    - oil pressure alarm? beeps when the ignition is turned on

All in all the car is useless at the moment and it will be very hard to get it running by sunday

My guess for the running issues is that I have f*cked something up in the K-Jet. The piston seems to move freely enough though. I will at least try to get another K-Jet by the weekend but that will be hard.

Thanks in advance for your help

    Did you check your injectors?

Also you need to make sure that you dont have somewhere huge vacuum leak or that your hose between TB and fuel distributor does not have hole or crack.

      Just some thoughts

Thanks for your input, had all hoses off and everything was dirty but fine otherwise.

Here is a link to the vid I made this morning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DN57...ature=youtu.be

when you removed the torx bolts, you acturally opened the k-jet head, which is not good.

to check if there is any fuel injected into the engine when cranking do this:

remove injectors, put them in bottles, install some other injectors in the head, and cranck the engine.

          like this:

Air leak IMO. Remove rubber 'boot' to expose meter head. Crank over and with some pliers slowly lift the metering head to see if it starts 1-2mm that's all. Then post results.

Yep, definitely check the injector flow. On the Golf, I had one injector almost completely block from a sticky goo like substance.
This goo is actually remains of a cleaning agent that is put into gasoline, but it can react with the ethanol of the E85 fuel.
              Symptoms were (very) high idle.

And yes, opening the metering head is a no-no, since no gaskets are available. Might be possible to fabricate some new ones from some sort of gasket material.

Well I did open a metering head once and it did leak badly afterwards. I put the 2 torx bolts back in again and it is not leaking so it does not look like it has been open.

I can drive the car like normal once I get towed and put the car in gear. It does have full power etc then, but it just won't idle and runs rough on part throttle.

Check to ensure that the little clip is still attached on the bottom of the air flow sensor plate. I had a similar problem on my WX powered B2 90q. Mine broke, but some fall off.

You mean the one that holds the 'piston' in the K-Jet? That is still there.

The clip that is used to adjust static sensor plate height. The "w" shaped on at the bottom of the diagram below.

Also the guy who bought my "Romanian" 90q has his car in pieces and will bring me the K-Jet from that car tomorrow to try if it works and if it does I will do the track session with his K-Jet

the fuel adjustment is realy important by k-jetronic,maybe your fuel ratio is not good anymore after cleaning the piston
above the k-jectronic between the jetronic head and the scale there is a inbus screw where you can adjust your fuel ratio, sometimes there is a plastic cap over it
you can adjust it with running engine but it woud be better with a fuel ratio tester

i reckon you will have moved the metering flap as they are really easy to bend. Most K jets I have had for rough running a good ignition timing and Co2 adjustment to within spec has sorted them..

Nick, I know what you mean could always give it a try and see if it makes a difference.

MM, I would be surprised if the flap itsself would be bent and also believe the parts below have not been adjusted. But indeed it is all very sensitive on these things and easily screwed up.

I do have another K-Jet to try and use now though for the weekend.

Any idea about the oil pressure alarm though?
