    "New" RS2 turbo self destruct

Ended up stranded in the S2 for the second time in over 6 years this week. Luckily I wasn't far from home and a mate with a low loader was in the area.

To cut a long story short 3 weeks ago I fitted a pretty much new RS2 turbo. It had been fitted and run on the previous car to get it on and off trailers and basically just sat around for a few years.

So on Tuesday I overtake a lorry and just as I get past I hear a squeal and a cloud of smoke pours out behind me. Oil was actually pouring out of the exhaust afterwards!

After an SOS call to Alex/Error (Cheers mate) and trying a quick fix which didn't work I decided to get it home to have a proper look before doing any more damage. Anyway I got it recovered home and finally had the chance to have a proper look today and as soon as I removed the turbo hose it was pretty clear what had caused the problem:

Having had a search about it looks like I'm not the first S2 owner to have this happen. Unfortunately as the turbo has been sat about so long I don't think I can do anything apart from moan on here! Or hopefully someone else will avoid a similar thing happening.

The compressor wheel looks screwed to me, or will it be salvageable?

Just took the downpipe off hoping to find a happy looking exhaust wheel and it has gone, completely gone, disappeared down the exhaust, there's not even a shaft left!!! At least there is currently no cat for it to have destroyed!

What software do you run? How does the boost profile looks? Max boost and pressure at higher revs.

It's running a conservative ~350 PRJ map atm, oem wastegate, ran with no problems on another RS2 turbo.

Glad I hadn't played with another chipset as I'd be blaming that...

I'll find more parts of the turbo tomorrow so will be able to tell more then.

Not so sure it was actually new now apparently it was supplied with an S2 turbo in exchange, so it is probably a refurb. I'll contact the companies involved before smearing them on here.

Found the rest of the turbo this morning, between the two silencers...

Should I expect to find any more parts?
