G6 Fuel Pump Testing and Replacement
You don't need to take the basket out. You can unclip the pump from the basket.

Update
So had some time today and managed to get the old pump out and the new pump in.
And now the car is running again.
I could not get the return line on in the tank, but have ordered some new parts and will get the sorted when they arrive.
One less thing to worry about.Comment
