  • Modified head - what valves do you run? Poll!

All who have modified cylinder heads and have changed the valves please post here, what exhaust valves do you use? Do you still use the sodium filled stock turbo valves(3B, AAN, ABY, ADU) or if you use a 7A head, do you use the 7A valves(non sodium filled). Or do you use second hand valves, normal non filled, sodium filled, stainless, titanium..? Why did you choose the valves you use? If you use 7A or normal second hand valves, how much power do you run? Please post the brand of you valves also.

I believe some of the 7A head valves are sodium filled. Looking forward to the replies as this is going to be an interesting thread to see peoples opinions and practises.

Yes, some of the 7A heads have sodium filled valves, propably in the beginning when production started Audi used them..? I belive in the end most 7A heads have normal valves, but of course it's hard to tell if someone is using 7A valves, which they are, if not weighted.

        Thomas,
I just pulled the exhaust valves off the 7A head.
Mine got non sodium filled (part#611D).the parts#
is located on the top groove.I'm going to use this
        On my AAN head.

I'm going to be using super tech valves 0.5 MM oversize 3/4 angle valve guides for better flow as I've been told you get better gains than oversize valves wish I would of just gone standard size

Ok, atm I'm using stock head and AAN valves. Latest power figures 624hp/737Nm, and have been revving up to 8100rpm. Just thinkin of using 7A valves in my next head, but don't know how much power they can take..? A friend of my snapped a "hollow" AAN valve and that was not pretty.

Hi Thuppu I'm not willing to take the risk with used valves.as I've btdt on my golf But I do know that Andyp had a valve drop on his engine because of wear on a valve, and he showed me piston Which had a hole through it I believe it was sodium filled valves he used as well.

Yes, the risk with old sodium valves are real:

I'm still looking for valves to pick for my head. Don't want to go too cheap. Stumbled upon some TRW valves, dunno if I can get them here though.

What about RS2 valves in AAN/ABY/3B? Do they fit? I'm getting 2 different part numbers for RS2 valves for some reason.

Inconel missing off poll list. A popular material for running near the ragged edge.

Do you know the weights of either of them? It would be nice to check my very low mileage 7A head and see what i have.
