IMO you're over thinking it. 440cc are tried and tested to be true. The benefit is they're readily available and you won't run a high DC with your setup.
Another bonus is a good resale market down the road vs some oddball injector.

What injec/chipset for RS2+ power

Must admit pressurising it from the point of view of the under bonnet OEM look doesn't really fit in with my plans anyway but nice to learn what is possible.
I'm probably going to end up with 350 ish + bhp,i really don't want anymore power as i need to be able to drive it all over Britain without having to tow a fuel tanker around with me!
Two things to consider when sizing injectors is
a) duty cycle
b) future potential
Leave enough room on the table now so that you're not going above 85% DC so you don't overheat your injectors at max boost.
IMO, I'd buy the 440cc or some 500cc EV14 and call it a day.
Also, a tried and true FMIC will not steer you wrong as long as you don't incur pressure drop.
I asked Mark about injector sizes and he was trying to steer me away from a 440 injector in favour of a smaller one. After some drilling down into the subject and my bhp target he mentioned the Porsch 996 turbo 370cc injector or similar which on the face of it by the rule of 1cc for 1bhp would look like an ideal match given the parts i'm using and tested BHP they deliver. I am also considering this Bosch injector - 0280 156 369 grey's.
This is not simple as far as i can make out, most of these old injectors are either NLA or ridiculous prices. Whatever happens it's safe to say he did an awesome job with Darren Jones's UR Quattro.I need to see what injector Darren used? Feel free to chime in Darren??!.Last edited by Vorsprung durch Technik; 8 March 2016, 22:41.Leave a comment:

Leave enough room on the table now so that you're not going above 85% DC so you don't overheat your injectors at max boost. That way you can have a fun day on a B road or at the track without worry.
Also, best to leave some available for any kind of possible upgrade down the road... e85 or race fuel, water/methanol injection, bigger turbo, you name it. With a Motronic tune you're paying for each revision. Nice to reduce your overall costs buying as much hardware right the first time as possible.
An older complaint with injectors was that the larger the injector the worse the idle characteristics. With modern technology, you're basically laughing if you're 1600cc or lower.
IMO, I'd buy the 440cc or some 500cc EV14 and call it a day.

MAF isn't physically designed to be put on the pressure side, so it needs some work to get it to hold 2 bar...
For what you're planning, you don't need anything fancy. Keep it simple and enjoy it.Leave a comment:

Hi David,I was looking forward to seeing what larger intercooler you were going to be able to fit behind the bumper, but I now see this may not be what you'l be doing. But I'm also interested in the twin intercooler method as wel, but it seems like a lot of work for my ability.
Have a look at DJ Jones's white Ur quattro build thread on here as he did twin intercoolers, but his ability makes it look easier than it would be for me.
Are these mods to the 'new' black UrS6 saloon ?
Regards.

I've just been looking at DJ Jones's UR thread as Mark mentioned that he mapped his car during our conversation. All great stuff Darren has achieved.
Obviously there are limitations behind the front bumper for a big IC so have always worried about that as i really don't want to weaken the front bumper by cutting.
I'm going down the route of 2 smaller intercoolers in parallel because 2 smaller ones flow better than one large one according to Mark and after he explained it to me it makes complete sense. After reading Darren's thread he suffers no lag whatsoever so the twin IC's are the way to go as you get a more efficient inlet charge = more power and torque. That's what i am aiming for but we will have to see.
Yes the mods are on the Ming Blue saloon.

I just had a very interesting chat with Mark at Automark. On injectors apparently you need 1cc per 1hp. So for my target of 350 - 375 bhp he recommended using the RS2 injectors or similar. He likes my idea of what i want to achieve using the size of the Volvo k24 7400 and it's characteristics. Mark mentioned it's all about air speed and not necessarily size of turbo. For my build i only want an everyday usable road car with lots of low down torque and boost available from very low down in the rev range. For a normal road car the Volvo turbo fits that brief well. It's all relative.
The way he described it was imagine a windy day, .. .. .. .. open your back door completely then open your front door by 1" and you will feel the air rushing in very fast. Now open up your front door fully and the air speed has now dropped right of.Ie now the Turbo has lost it's pressure it needs to work efficiently.
For this reason he recommends using 2 small intercoolers rather than 1 larger one and placing the maf in between the 2 intercoolers so the maf is now pressurised pushing air rather than sucking air. This sounds great from the point of keeping up air speed but i would have to work out where to place the second intercooler.
I'm thinking that's not going to be easy to achieve 2 smaller intercoolers but would like to.I'm not keen on moving the maf away from it's original place but understand the advantages according to Mark.If i can find somewhere to fit another small intercooler i will.
Has anyone done this i.e.,using 2 small intercoolers in parallel?Last edited by Vorsprung durch Technik; 7 March 2016, 17:57.Leave a comment:

Alternatively, invest in an aftermarket ECU, then you can get anyone who knows what they are doing to tune it, rather than rely on only 2 people (as good as they are!) and have software that you can use to interrogate it yourself should something go amiss.
It may cost a bit more up front, but the ability to self-diagnose will save you a fortune in the long run, as well as open up a whole raft of different tuners to use.Leave a comment:

JNL did an upgrade on my cylinder head for the new build I did. The upgrade was tailored around my 400-450bhp goal and was very good value for what was done. Give him a shout.
For your modest goal, just a rebuild with multi angle valve seats would be a good start. Might be worth considering a billet RS2 turbo instead, to maximise your gains for the same outlay.Leave a comment:

Thanks for all your help Andy it's much appreciated! If you want it to be the best it can be you need a live map on your car, so with the stock ECU in the UK Automark is to be the current option.
He will map a k24 7400 with 440s, but would rather use smaller injectors when I spoke to him. You can fit all the mechanical components, leave the n75 unplugged (so only spring boost), then fit the injectors at Automark. The car will run on 440s with a stock ecu, but pig rich (not advised).
