I was looking forward to seeing what larger intercooler you were going to be able to fit behind the bumper, but I now see this may not be what you'l be doing. But I'm also interested in the twin intercooler method as wel, but it seems like a lot of work for my ability.

Have a look at DJ Jones's white Ur quattro build thread on here as he did twin intercoolers, but his ability makes it look easier than it would be for me.

Are these mods to the 'new' black UrS6 saloon ?

      Regards.

To be honest with you I have not had it dynoed after PRJ done the Map, but injectors are running 95% at 1.7 bar.

Hi David, I've just been looking at DJ Jones's UR thread as Mark mentioned that he mapped his car during our conversation. All great stuff Darren has achieved. Obviously there are limitations behind the front bumper for a big IC so have always worried about that as i really don't want to weaken the front bumper by cutting.

I'm going down the route of 2 smaller intercoolers in parallel because 2 smaller ones flow better than one large one according to Mark and after he explained it to me it makes complete sense. After reading Darren's thread he suffers no lag whatsoever so the twin IC's are the way to go as you get a more efficient inlet charge = more power and torque. That's what i am aiming for but we will have to see.

Yes the mods are on the Ming Blue saloon.

MAF isn't physically designed to be put on the pressure side, so it needs some work to get it to hold 2 bar...

For what you're planning, you don't need anything fancy. Keep it simple and enjoy it.

              This ^^^

Two things to consider when sizing injectors is
              a) duty cycle
              b) future potential

Leave enough room on the table now so that you're not going above 85% DC so you don't overheat your injectors at max boost. That way you can have a fun day on a B road or at the track without worry.

Also, best to leave some available for any kind of possible upgrade down the road... e85 or race fuel, water/methanol injection, bigger turbo, you name it. With a Motronic tune you're paying for each revision. Nice to reduce your overall costs buying as much hardware right the first time as possible.

An older complaint with injectors was that the larger the injector the worse the idle characteristics. With modern technology, you're basically laughing if you're 1600cc or lower.

IMO, I'd buy the 440cc or some 500cc EV14 and call it a day.

Also, a tried and true FMIC will not steer you wrong as long as you don't incur pressure drop.

Must admit pressurising it from the point of view of the under bonnet OEM look doesn't really fit in with my plans anyway but nice to learn what is possible.

I'm probably going to end up with 350 ish + bhp,i really don't want anymore power as i need to be able to drive it all over Britain without having to tow a fuel tanker around with me!

I asked Mark about injector sizes and he was trying to steer me away from a 440 injector in favour of a smaller one. After some drilling down into the subject and my bhp target he mentioned the Porsch 996 turbo 370cc injector or similar which on the face of it by the rule of 1cc for 1bhp would look like an ideal match given the parts i'm using and tested BHP they deliver. I am also considering this Bosch injector - 0280 156 369 grey's.

This is not simple as far as i can make out, most of these old injectors are either NLA or ridiculous prices. Whatever happens it's safe to say he did an awesome job with Darren Jones's UR Quattro.I need to see what injector Darren used? Feel free to chime in Darren??!.

IMO you're over thinking it. 440cc are tried and tested to be true. The benefit is they're readily available and you won't run a high DC with your setup.

Another bonus is a good resale market down the road vs some oddball injector.

If the MAF is in between the 2 intercoolers then they are in series, not in parallel

For what you're doing I would stick with the MAF in the stock position, they need to be specially mapped on the pressure side and in any case tend to fail more often.

Not all intercoolers are made equal. The efficiency of the core is the important thing not its size or number of them. Darren may correct me but I believe his twin setup was born out of packaging issues in the UR rather than anything else. Bottom line you want to minimise the pressure drop across the cooler. You can't beat quality components
Getting the MAF to hold 2bar on the pressure side is no easy task!
I think Mr Jones runs Porsche orange top injectors (993 turbo?) perhaps.

Thanks for clearing that up John.

Alex i hear what your saying about Quality and thanks for that! Your right about Darrens packaging problems which led to the 2 smaller IC's. Mark at Automark recommended pace as a supplier of IC's and from memory over a long period aren't they supposed to be one of the best?? What would you recommend as a supplier??

                          Cheers.

Why not RS2 injectors? Seem to crop up fairly often, are large enough for your requirements and will sell on easily enough if you want to go larger?

Why not RS2 injectors? Good question? .. .. .. .. I've literally just got of the phone to JP and been discussing possible bhp benefits. There are obvious benefits to the port matching and flowing i.e., smoother boost lower down and a wider power band just not necessarily the 10% extra bhp i thought as i'm being governed by the Volvo turbo, measured by prj at 350bhp albeit on a standard AAN. I'm adding a Wagner EVO RS2 EM which according to JP adds another 15bhp,turbo allowing. So combined with the Volvo turbo if it allows, i'm looking at min 350 to a possible 365 bhp. Here's the rub, wouldn't 365bhp not put me on the cusp or limit of the RS2 injectors duty cycle?
