Afternoon lads, a positive find today. Prior to refitting the head a few months back i had removed the diverter valve for testing. Checked it with a midyvac and all was ok, however on refitting it i had the wrong orientation. It only dawned on me last night as i was surfing the forum and seen a picture of the correct orientation. So, i removed it today to recheck and fit correctly only to find the diaphragm is completely torn. I've ordered a new one so hopefully when that arrives and fitted in the correct orientation, with a bit of luck i will get full boost with the Vstream chips. I've also taken a picture of the TS tuning chips coding on VCDS to compare against known good chips. I'll post this later. So.......do you think the new diverter will solve my issues on the VStream chips?
No boost after engine/turbo upgrade

Well i sure hope so, i'll be a happy chappy if a new diverter valve solves my boosting issue. Now for the TS chips, here is a screen shot of what the coding looks like on mine. These were purchased from a forum member who had no running issues with them, however the symptoms i am having are very similar to other people who have tried these chips.
I believe some of these chips are good and some are not. Who else runs these and if possible can you check what the coding states in VCDS?
I just can't get my head around why a chipset would work no problem in one car and in another have the violent boost or fuel cut along with the ECU resetting and rev counter flicking to zero then back to normal.
Having only had a quick play with these chips the only thing i've noticed so far, other than the power cutting issue is that they don't seem to store the normal fault code for when the car is switched off, can't remember what it is the now, a G28 code?
Why would it not store this code?
Look forward to hearing from you

There are maybe multiple flavours of TS chips. I would be very wary of any that have altered any of the diagnostic routines.
Ps - fitting that bypass valve back to front is likely what caused it's death.
Makes me wonder how you are doing boost leak tests if this did not show up before.
If you had pressurised the system at the compressor outlet (simulating boost from the turbo output) then air would have rushed thru the damaged bypass valve into the MAF hose.
I am betting you have applied pressure at the MAF hose - applying pressurised air to input of the compressor - which passes thru the compressor and that torn bypass valve only to meet the same pressure on the MAF side - so it passed the leak test by doing it that way - it's the wrong way really but known to be convenient alright. Doing it that way you have to isolate and test the bypass valve.
It's a bit of 20:20 hindsight of course but just trying to explain why the busted bypass valve doesn't show when you do a boost test that way.Paul Nugent

Paul, yes you are 100% right on the pressure testing, if i remember correctly when i first put the engine back together i tried two pressure tests using the bungs bought on here years ago.
1. From Maf to Turbo Inlet hose, through compressor as far as intercooler outlet hose- in isolation this was to test my newly fitted RS2 intercooler, O ring and and Mark H mod
2. From Maf to Turbo Inlet hose through compressor and onwards to inlet manifold etc
Because the Diverter valve was removed at the time for testing i assumed it would still be ok, little did i know it was refitted in the wrong orientation. Duh!!!
I'll need to speak to the guy i bought the TS chips off as i think he was getting several internal checksum errors when scanned with VCDS but oddly no codes are showing up when i scan?
I'll also double check the diagnostic routine on these chips to be sure that they don't log any codes, i'll pull a couple of sensors off with the car idling to see whats happens.Comment

Just pop them over to me whenever suits you. I can have a quick look and report any important findings regards checksums or diagnostics. I will send them straight back of course.Paul Nugent

I'm away offshore tomorrow Paul so will forward you the TS chips to have a nosey at whenever you have free time. No rush, i'll be away for a few weeks anyway. I've been in contact with another forum member who is currently going through the same issue with his TS chips, so i'm keen to find out what the compatibility problem is with these chipsets.
As always, i'm sure a bit of digging will uncover something.Comment

That's fine - it will be well over a week before I get time to look at it.Paul Nugent

Afternoon all,
Heading offshore tomorrow and as my diverter valve never turned up today, i'll have to wait until my return to see what difference it makes. However, i did have quick play with the car to see if i could trigger fault codes with the TS chips. Connected VCDS , started the car and scanned for codes, nothing was coming back, turned away for a minute then looked back at the laptop and 308 fault codes had shown up. What the hell??
Cleared them and switched the car off, scanned for codes again but nothing showing, not even the usual G28? Hmmm. Started the car and pulled the idle stabilzation valve connector N71 which showed up on VCDS straight away, however no blink light was triggered? Reconnected that and pulled the coolant sensor on the back of the head off, again a fault code was generated on VCDS but no blink light on the dash. Hmmm?
Reconnected everything, cleared codes and decided to rev the car until it did the ECU reset, rev counter flicker which i was thinking had lead to the 308 fault codes i had first seen.
However, as i revved the car slowly up to the 5-6k mark where it had been previously doing the ECU reset thing nothing was happening, no ECU reset, no back fire, no rev counter flicker just normal clean revving? Tried again several times taking it right up the rev range past where it was having issues previously but didn't falter once.
Now then, how can you explain that? The only thing that has changed since i was driving it a few days ago is i have fitted the torn diverter valve in the correct orientation for todays test, other than that i cleared the 308 codes that were present, nothing else?Comment
surprised it ran as well as it did!
