    ABY Misfire

    Hi all,

I´ve been reding the threads about the subject and did something already but still get a misfire so I´m here to pick your brains and try to solve the thing!

My ABY as a cronic MAF connector problem that sometimes is there sometimes isn´t, just have to wiggle it a bit or even go over a more pronunced bump or pothole and it appears or disapears, I know this because when it appears the ralenti dips to 600rpm before stabilising when coming to a halt and when it goes away it thisdoesn´t happen and has been like this for some years now, I even bought and changed the MAF connectors but it stayed the same.....So any ideas about this issue are welcome!

About the misfire per se. It made itself felt last summer, first slightly and after a month more pronunced, when I felt it for the first time I thought that my BKR7EIX had to many miles on them and ordered new ones.
After changing the plugs the slightly misfire remained, it happens on very light throttle load and when the car is up to temperature, very rarely with the car cold, if ever, and sometimes with more load on the throttle,. It only misfires 1 or 2 times and after that it´s normal for a few minutes or a whole highway trip, it feels and is a one cylinder misfire.

What have I done so far, 1st I removed all the new plugs and found out that all where grey but the one on cyl. nº4 was light brown in the ring around the base (they where only on the car for 6/7 Kmiles) so suspecting a faulty plug bought a new one, but the misfire is still there, next I´ve bought a new Beru coil but to no avail then I´ve changed the POS channel but the misfire is the same.

So now I´m out of ideas and although it´s not a big problem it´s not normal also and wasn´t there before and annoys the hell out of me!
By the way my car has no leaks boost or vaccum!

Any help is welcome and thank you all in advance!

Also, check your injector connectors. The inserts fall apart, try a search.

You could have a broken wire going to the maf which is giving same symptoms as dodgy connector

It happens on LPG as on RON98, sorry forget to mention!

I´ll pull the codes next time it goes to the Audi shop!

And for the MAF problem I´ve considered buying the conectors from Audi because they come with a lenghth of wire instead of only the conectors from here, I´ve already suspected of a broken wire! I have the intention of asking the eletrician to do that during the next service.

I´ll have one done next time I get it serviced, although one was done 60kmiles ago when the LPG was instaled and all was ok, (the car is mostly driven moderatly) but we never know!
What it intrigues me is that it feels like a faulty plug and the plug on nº4 shows sintoms of misfiring!
Could a cylinder with low compression cause a sporadic misfire?

Yes, that's why I mentioned it.

                      Hi Pedro,

I had this problem too in my RS2. If you touch in MAF connector sometimes all ok and other times no ok. You can prove it with VCDS with 2+2 cable and check in channel 1 fuel trim. If all ok trim is 1.00 if not ok ( problem connector/MAF ) this drop to 0.6 if i remember well.

In my case was a small aluminium wire inside of MAF sensor was broken.

                        Hi Cristiano,

It´s not the MAF because I have 2 MAFs one is new and both do the same, I guess it´s one of the wires is broken somewhere upstream!

Obrigado na mesma, já tens caixa?

When you replaced the pins did you crimp or solder?

In any case there must be a break near the plug, time to cut the sleaving back and inspect the wires.
