Hope you didn't mind me butting in Doug. I knew you couldn't see behind the cam pulley bolt.
Cam timing adjustment

The cams move 180 deg. for one revolution of the crank. (the crank sprocket has 1/2 the number of teeth, no?
)
Anyway a tooth would move the cam timing by a tooth, so 6.9 deg.
An ABY could not be moved without messing with the hall sender timing.
To play with cam timing you need special adjustable sprockets.Comment

You can also get adjustable cam gears, to adjust intake cam seperate from the exhaust cam. The adjustable sprocket will adjust both cams in relation to the crank.Originally posted by newshTo play with cam timing you need special adjustable sprockets.Mark Siggelkow

You still need the adjustable camwheel to adjust both cams. The camwheel adjust the exhaust cam and the camgears makes it possible to adjust intake separatly.Originally posted by RSCoupeYou can also get adjustable cam gears, to adjust intake cam seperate from the exhaust cam. Yes, sorry, that is what I ment by sprocket (vs. gear).Originally posted by Audi_CQYou still need the adjustable camwheel to adjust both cams. The camwheel adjust the exhaust cam and the camgears makes it possible to adjust intake separatly.

Thanks guys
What does the adjustable sprocket cost? As all my marks line up, (although I'll have to wait to check the woodruff key) I am trying to get advice from Mihnea on adjusting the timing electronically with the remap, if that doesn't work out, I may try the adjustable sprocket, but I know that's playing with fire
Anyway, we'll see how it goes.
Cheers all

An adjustable sprocket is not going to help your off boost problem - as you might increase timing off-boost, but on-boost timing will change as well - and that is not good.
If you use your stock chips and stock injectors, is the boost coming in any lower?S2,RS2,S4 WB,RS4,S4 B8,RS6 C5,RS6 C6,R8Comment

Karl, I think you are getting 2 things mixed up here: the ECU adjusts the ignition timing or ignition advance, and you are talking about adjusting the cam timing.
They are 2 totally different things and I wouldn't recommend you for anything in the world to change the cam timing mechanically!!!!!! At least not if I am not inside the car with my laptop controlling your ECU, it is not safe to do this sort of trial and error.
Karl, please check that your cam timing is in spec to start with, I do still have doubts about it, then afterwards we'll figure out where the problem is, but don't screw the cam timing with adjustable pulleys to try to get boost lower in the RPM range if there can be a mechanical fault that's causing this!!!

I will double check and let you know. It's pretty frustrating though.
Can't you guys take a holiday in Oz and bring your laptops
