Cheers Jas. That's what I was thinking. Could be awkward. I'll figure it out though. I didn't come this far to dish out 600 quid on a screen.

not for an audi coupe but i used to work at pilkington automotive,,
a windscreen for them to produce used to cost them 8 pounds a piece and i think it was 17 for a heated one.. the mark ups are amazing arent they..

made me sick one day when i had to chuck one hundred odd mark two escort windows into the bin and make sure they were all broken so nobody could salvage them.. ( this was about four years ago )

          OK, so it happened.....
Had to use autoglass, and my choices were Canterbury or Ashford.
After talking to both places on the phone, the Canterbury one sounded more knowledgeable, telling me they would need the car for around 4 hours, as trim had to be drilled off, etc etc etc....
I took the car, disappeared into town for a day out looking at things.....
went back to find the worst job I have ever seen...
side trims were nowhere near right, 2mm gap on inside edges, top trim showing the leading edge of the roof by 5mm...!
adhesives squeezeout down both inside edges....
and they had lost a wiper nut cover......
          Really not good.....
I pointed out that I had phoned and talked because I knew about the job, and what the pitfalls were, and that they would have to do it again....
          booked in again......
another day spent looking at the same stuff in Canterbury.....
          went back......
much much better, all trims lined up, no squeezeout.... they had found a replacement wiper nut cap..... BUT had cracked the screen on the top corner....
          booked in again.....
Job was done OK this time, not quite as good as the second time....they managed to chip a tiny bit of paint off one of the side trims, but it was ok.... acceptable, I should say.....
I didnt get any refund of the 70 quid petrol it took though, and felt like it was my fault that they kept c**king it up....
Avoid Canterbury, anybody needing a coupe screen........
Honda CBR 1100XX Blackbird Turbo....undergoing major changes.....
S2 Coupe... bit easier off the line...
'03 ZX12-R daily hack.... lots of nice bolt ons...

Sorry to hear about that Chris. I was *hoping* you were going to give me a good reference. I won't be leaving them alone and will be having the job done at my house while I WATCH!

I am going to get all the required parts from VAGparts myself so that I know the job can be done properly!

I have to get mine done in the next four weeks as I need an MOT for the 'ring trip....

                Cheers,

                Steve

Good luck with that Steve, I tried originally to get them to come to my house to do it, but they refused, saying it was really a 2 man job and the mobile services are one man only deals...

I wish I had taken it at bigger cost to somewhere much further away who had done one recently and could show me their work...

You need to be ruthless with them, and really watch what they do.....

Same here, both times I've had Coupe screens replaced, they point blank refused to come out. It had to go to the depot. Good luck Steve, wouldn't wish this job on anyone.

For the hassle you've had Chris, I would have been better in hindsight to either drive to Coventry Autoglass or Middlesbrough Autoglass (although both are a bloody big trek)

Rotoryboy had his done at Coventry, spot on first time.
Mine at Middlesbrough, spot on first time.

Sorry to see you had hassle.

i'll fill a flask and make myself a sandwich.

actually I'll see where I end up being sent in Glasgow and suss out if they have a scoobie what they're talking about. and based on the conversation i might let them at it or I might be filling the flask and making a sandwich.

This is what I did Noel, the Canterbury guy told me what was involved, and he seemed to know exactly what he was talking about...
Best advice I can give is to try and talk to the guy ACTUALLY DOING THE JOB, not just the guy answering the phone.... the receptionist might very well know whats involved, but more than likely won't be the guy doing the job....

good thinking mate. sometimes you just have to be blunt and ask to speak to someone that knows what the F they're talking about

                                Just a quick question?

Is there anything to stop me from letting them to the actual glass part and then finishing off the trim parts myself in my own time?

Or is it not as simple as that?

                                Cheers,

                                Steve.
