Don't think its that straight forward... wiring modification and ECU software changes required too - not exactly a plug and play group buy mod !

The MAF discussion took place when we were discussing Doug's pretty phenomenal engine build in his coupe.
Doug's comment as i remember it was that speed density was the best way to go for sure, so not to bother with a MAF at all, but that in his experience of mapping hundreds if not thousands of RS4's is that the B5 RS4 MAF is no more reliable than the S2 MAF.
He said that although the RS4 MAF doesn't just snap and stop working entirely like the S2 MAF it does significantly drift out over time, for one reason or another. I don't think he was saying there was a requirement for a wbo2 monitor, just that it probably wasn't going to be the be-all and end-all solution... not that anyone was saying it was!
My point was that at least it's still easily available AND well priced in comparison to the R/S2 MAFs.
I did obviously have that RS4 MAF install on mine, which then went inaccurate to the point the car wouldn't even run properly. However this was a second-hand MAF which may well have had 10 years hard use, plus i was on a track day the week before where the poor chap infront of me had his engine blow up, pissing oil everywhere which i sucked up into my inlet... she never ran right afterwards until i changed the plugs and MAF.
From my POV the reason to keep a MAF is for the flexibility of being able to change the setup. If you go RS4 MAF you'll arguably have more reliability but will also be able to get hold of one easier and cheaper. If you're never going to change the setup then go speed density and do away with it entirely.S2Forum.com AdministratorComment

I've got an aluminium one of these if anyone is interested.Comment

I know that early APY engined 8L S3s had a habit of melting pistons, possibly due to lean running, and Audi obviously felt the need to add WBO2 and EGT sensing on the later cars which I guess they wouldn't have done unless they had good reason to spend the money on something that doesn't directly sell more cars. Maybe Paul is somehow referring to these additions to Motronic, and that they mat be related to HFM issues.SSComment

This is not right, I have a straightforward solution with a piggyback box that goes between the MAF and ECU to use the MAF with a stock / any map.Comment

I can do it either with ECU modification or I also have a prototype tiny box that goes in the wiring between the HFM5 and the ECU and translates the signal, so it's plug and play.
But this is only with stock intake config and a special hfm5 based MAF that comes with the kit.
If you throw a custom intake into the job, then it won't workComment

I must have missed this Dmitri and it is very much of interest. Is there a thread?I can do it either with ECU modification or I also have a prototype tiny box that goes in the wiring between the HFM5 and the ECU and translates the signal, so it's plug and play.

So within a day this HFM5 MAF upgrade has gone from prototype to financially viable or are you putting the idea out there to see what interest exists to move it forwards ?Paul Nugent

I have had this working prototype for about two years now.
I have one printed board fully assembled, I have CAD files, I have a processor on the printed board, a weatherproof box for it and so on.
It's sitting in a box and collecting dust.
I am missing the MAF data required, and I've so much to do right now honestly, that I don't have any time for this.
I don't see the ROI with this thing… there's a few things missing to make it a complete product, and it just needs effort put in.Comment
