Screen Wash Nozzles & also Legionnaires

Just for the Forum's record, and member's information.

Also read the BBC link at the end of the last post in this short thread above.

    Thanks.

Water from windscreen wipers may be the cause of 20% of cases of Legionnaires' Disease, researchers say.

Always use plenty of screenwash in mine.

When I did a legionella course for work, we were all asked to name places where it might be possible for the legionella bacteria to proliferate and as we went round in a group saying where we thought it would be possible the suggestions got more and more ridiculous. One of the last places mentioned was the screen wash reservoir on cars which we all had a laugh about. The biologist taking the course said that she'd never heard of it occurring there before and would check into it. Approximately one year later I heard about this on the news. I wonder if this was kick started by us having a laugh and a joke about about it on this course.

        Probably not

You don't get legionella from drinking the water, but **** knows how you'd get it from your washer jets, as you need to inhale it as a spray. So you'd be having to have your head out of the window whilst operating them. Health and safety advice fail.
