Pete says it's easy so it must be a matter of practice I can't wait to see how easy it is this time, it'll be my 3rd including the Avant interior swap. Then there was Keith's coupe when we removed the alarm..

              morning all

So my matrix is blocked. No hot air through blower but also no damp carpets. I stuck a hose onto each pipe on bulkhead and no flow through it at all.

just in case i'm being stupid is there a valve in there or should water flow straight through. Certainly thats my experience with other cars.

Next question is what part to fit? Euro are struggling to get a Valeo part but the aftermarket one is there in store. Anyone got an experience with it? I don't mind fitting an after market one I just don't want to have to fit two as I am prepared for the pain of removing the dash and have done a matrix or two in the past so I know roughly what i'm in for.

I can't believe for a minute it's worse then a Pug 306! That was horrific!

Just like nothing can go faster than the speed of light, nothing can be worse than a Pug. Its a universal constant.

The heater matrix is straight through, there are no valves in it.
I got my part from Quattro Corner, just to be on the safe side and not fit an cheap ebay one.

The first step of heater matric removal in a 306 is to remove the windscreen wiper mech.

I'm looking at the Euro car parts aftermarket one. It's probably a Valeo one in a different box anyway but just thought i'd check to see if anyone had any horror stories.

Sounds like I know what will be filling my evenings now the clocks have gone forward.

gotta say i feel its not too bad a job.

dash is out in 2 hours. heater box is 10 mins. 4 bolts.

                      easier than a corrado anyway.

Still a lot worse than the B2 series Audi, don't even need to remove the dash at all. Not that I ever had one that leaked anyway

Just had a phone call from Euro. Valeo heater matrix has arrived. £59 plus the VAT. Maybe a few quid more than others but should do the trick. Guess i'd best start getting the dash out then.

                            Any tips?

Is it definitely a dash out job to get the matrix out? My friend who will be doing my matrix replacement is a vw chap and he's always managed to do Golfs ones without removing the dash. He's not attempted it on an S2 before but he's got the wonderful task to do next week so I'm just scouring the forum for some tips and hopefully a guide.

Getting the dash out isn't a huge job. Easier then some other cars. I can't see how it would be possible to leave the dash in.
