also when u put the cover back over pollen filter make sure the lip that goes over top from the windscreen isnt flapped down the cover otherwise water will get in there too

I had terrible problems with my Coupe. I have had a dehumidifier in the car for months.
Leak 1/ I had a new windscreen fitted to my car. The installers decided to attach the gutter trim with 5 rivets instead of 13 which is the usual number from the 'B'post top the front. This caused 1 pint of water to enter the front footwells overnight when it was raining heavily. That may be well worth looking for. The carpets were not wet but the 'underlay' was wringing wet.
leak2/ The rear lights caused severe leaks as well. I found some superb rear light sealant ( german) £20 a box but well worth it. It's a bit like black sticky string. I will find the name of it and let you know. My local Audi Dealer use it.
Leak3/ The bonnet release grommet near the fuse box top had been punctured by a Clifford alarm fitter and sealed with gunge. It's amazing how much water can get in via a small hole.
Leak4/ At the top rear of the door seals there should be some sealant as without it water can get in and soak the rear carpets.
Ps I can now wear slippers in the coupe instead of the wellies as it's stopped leaking. Thay are size 13 and so I can stick the welly down even in slippers!Comment

Have done all the gromets and not yet done the rear lights, it has now become clear that, as the windows are getting an oiley film and the water in the header tank needs replenishing, that the heater matrix is leaking, this probably dates back to last year when the engine emptied itself of water and got very hot indeed.
Some Wynnes stop leak is going in in the morning and we'll see if that makes an improvement, if so, as soon a the decent weather arrives the dash will be out and a new heater core fitted, erk what a job:wacked:Comment

The rear lights have to be sealed carefully as they are big units. The stuff to use is a non setting mastic. I will post the name of the sealant as soon as I go back in the garage. It would be suitable for sealing around aerials and anything else. It is 10mm in diameter and can be stretched to smaller diameters or can be rolled into a ball to fill larger holes/gaps.
It is like a quality Dum-Dum in string form.
If you have access to non-setting glazing sealant this may do the job just as efficiently.
My bulb autocheck kept triggering on rainy days. This was due to water leaking onto the rear bulb circuit.
It's nice when you have a dry coupe, you can worry about other things!!Comment

A quick update. The Wynnes Radiator Stop Leak has completely stopped the greasy steaming up nonsense that was happening in my car.
There's still a bit of steaming up happening in the back cos the tail lights are still leaking, I'm waiting for suitable weather/ time to remove them.
@Stick Insect, where did you get the dumdum strip stuff from?Comment
-
The dum-dum string is made by a company called Terosan or Teroson. The product is called terostat vII ( or 7). I got mine from a motor factors called Supertune in Stockport Cheshire. The product is available from Brown Brothers who I think are nationwide. it should be about 20 quid for a 10 metre box. this is at 10mm thick you could stretch it to 100 metres but it would be 1 mm thick. it comes on 2 metre rolls and is in a hexagonal red and white box. It's ok to use on your Audi as it's made in Germany!
It's best applied when slightly warm ( and dry).
To remove the old sealant use white spirit
Make sure that you don't have a leak from the numberplate panel.Comment

@martinjs: No you cant buy just the rubber dish that the aerial/amplifier sits in (audi want £64 for that entire assembly) some Vauxhall/opel use the same and is much cheaper. To tighten up the exisiting one, you need to remove the rear courtesy light assembly or for better access still, undo the srews on the trim which can be seen when the bootlid is open (silver screws) and then you can pull down the rear of the roof lining a bit to gain access.
good luck,

I get fogged windows too, boot and interior floor is dry,i checked mine for a pollen filter but all i had was an air intake, for the heater, covered by a mmm sorta plastic mesh shield.Thing is the shield is like the type that should house a filter, but there isnt one fitted? I will try German unt swedish to look at the filter.
I can also get a mist coming out of the vents when the car is nearing full operating temperature(for a minute or two
),yeah i know sounds weird but happens when its cold and the cars been sitting a while.I think there maybe a water leak somewhere as the water level seems to need topping up with a mug full every other week.
Any ideas???:confused:Rob W

Rob you may have a heater matrix leak like me, if so you get a film of antifreeze on the windows. if the mist wipes off and is obviously just water then I dont know, read back up the thread, most causes were covered here.Originally posted by Rob W

Add a UV dye into the coolant and run the car for a few days, then use a UV lamp and shine it around the dash board. If the dash/windscreen glow in the UV light then its got Coolant on there, which has come from your heater matrix.
Easy when you know how!!

I found the windscreen steaming up all the time and hard to clean, wiping it just smeared the film around, I put a can of Wynne's stop leak In the cooling system and I can now drive around without the windscreen steaming up. The back of the car still gets steamy but I havent fixed the leaky rear lights yet, got the stuff to do it though...Comment

Im never one to show off!! I found the rear lights lose when the back leaked. Some chimp left them lose after doing bodywork on the old dog, tossers.sigpic
