Paul would it be possible to pressurise the car in some way ,ie with a large fan blowing inside ,ive noticed that when cleaning a car with the engine running and fans on bubbles appear around the doors ect where the soap is ,just a waccky thought .

surely the fact that it suddenly started happening is a clue? Maybe a grommit has fallen out somewhere - or a drainange channel has got blocked with a sycamore seed or some other random thing!
you can't give up for such a small problem - you're needed here!!!!

False alarm - the car is still leaking... Good inch of water under the drivers seat after last nights rain. I am "this close" to repairing that ****ing car with a sledge hammer now. Totally at my wits end with it. Sure its 'only' 120 quid for a brand new door seal but I just have this horrid feeling that it won't be the cure. I've got silcone here, silicone there and everywhere I can get to but its still ******ed.

The thing really kinks me is to wonder how and when the seal started to leak.

The car hit a bizarre 144,444 milestone today but its future is really hanging in the balance now - I get little enough to work on cars these days - I can't be assed with having to bail water out of them every day - living over here in this boring shithole its hard to avoid the rain.

Any other suggestions - or locations for counselling. My spirit is broke with that car... Truly broke.

Further update on this hellish leak... Got some time at it today...

All the rivets are in tact - can see their heads by gently teasing up the door seal. I spent some time improving how the seal fits into the groove on the A-pillar. Its very tight there. A hose test on the lower half of the A-pillar showed all was well.

WIth the hose higher up the A-pillar I found a slight trickle still getting in somehow. On investigating the inner section of the door seal, it was possible to feel moisture in the area of the grab handle in the roof... Just a run of moisture under the seal where it then trickles towards the front and down the A-pillar.

So out again with the black gutter sealant and I run a bead up the inside and outside of the door seal - hidden from view. One rain shower followed that and the car stayed dry inside, so hopefully I'm onto it - but its not over yet.

    You really arnt paul!
I discovered only 2 weeks ago that my coupe leaks really bad. i havent established how it is getting in yet, but i have seen water dribble witness marks on the door card below the bottom of the a pillar (only visible with the door open) and the misses swears she has seen water dripping below the glovebox??

Whe parked on a hill the water has been known to be 2-3inches ABOVE the carpet in the rear footwell. My temporary fix has been just to remove the bungs under the car on the passenger side.

I've just had a scan through this thread, and I was thinking the same.
My car has a replacement windscreen just before I got it, and half the rivets were missing causing a leak as you describe. Just a wee dribble by the bonnet release pull.

Cheers Paul, i'll see how i go on Friday getting the console out and carpet out. My underfelt is scrap now on the drivers side and very likely on the passenger side too. I'll make sure i'm putting back something that cant suck all the water up if it leaks again and hopefully something a tad lighter too as the car is spending more of its life on the track these days too

Those rivets: if you pull the door rubber on the a-pillar down, you should be able to see where they go in small recesses all the way down the pillar. Looks on mine that i have rivets only at the top and base of the window. I need to get the roof resprayed so the glass will have to come out anyway but i'll be bloody sure to make sure they do a proper job this time round.

I'll stick some photos up as i get going...

    Cheers
    David

Oh and before you go taking out the carpet... I learnt a trick about the plastic footrest on drivers side... I damaged mine taking it out as I thought it was interference / clip fittings. Well it turns out (when you see a new one) that there are three (or four ?) plastic pins which spread out the clips to secure the part on the bodywork. WIth a punch you should be able to tap those pins all the way thru so that the footrest can be removed without breaking the clips.

Be careful cutting carpet behind the centre console.

And expect a mighty sodden mess of underfelt (now NLA) under the carpet.

At least I'm not in this club alone I feel a bit better.
