  • Sun roof lining removal

Hi, I'm new to the forum, but have owned a 10V Coupe Quattro (B3) for nearly 2 years now having bougt it as a restoration project as the previous owner had started breaking it !

My roof lining was saggy in places, generally mouldy, and one of the rear corners had come completely unstuck, so today is d-day for new headlining.

The headling pannel is now out of the car which wasn't too bad a job (I've taken loads of pics & will post a "how to" later), but I can't see an easy way of removing the sun roof panel to retrim ? Do I need to drop the whole sun roof out the car (14 13mm bolts I think) ?

    Thanks in advance

    Olly

Raj, if you were a little closer, I'd pop over & buy you a beer !

Sunroof panel now removed as well !

Time for a cool down & then start on the glue spraying !

Headlining 90% finished, but called it a day after 9 hours of "work" in 27/28 degree heat !

Just need to finish cleaning the various bits of plastic trim & re-fit & it's then done....

          Looks a LOT better !

Will do a "how to" guide over the weekend & post on this thread.

            How to remove Headlining

Still not finished the car (have been working all weekend), but have managed to knock up a "How To" guide for the whole process.

Just a warning, there are 63 "500x375" pictures on the page, so give it a chance to load !

I don't know if a Moderator wants to review this & make a sticky if they think it's good enough ?

For a first attempt at this I think you've excelled yourself. Some good tips in there and thanks for taking the time to write a guide and share it with us all.

Can I ask what kind of spray mount/glue did you use? I found another post in here that mentioned sticky pads or silicone sealant to stick the lining back up, but surely a spray is best? something that won't stain the paintwork and will last a long time is ideal

Also where did you buy the fabric from? and how much did you use in square meters?

Hi, the lining & glue came from "as-trim" on ebay.

They sell a kit of 3 meters of headlining (1.37m wide) & 2 cans of Hi Temp spray glue. I used approximately half the lining, and 1.5 cans of the glue (if your car is a non-sunroof car, you'll use less of both).

There is a HUGE sticky pad between the sunroof & the back of the car that you could replace, but the roof pannel is held up so well with all the plastic trim, I didn't bother.

                            Link to listing : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3M-Headlining-...ic_Textiles_SM

                            Good luck !
