Greg, I was looking at that trim wondering how it seals properly, I'll check it again, maybe some dumdum in the groove at the bottom of the screen would help. Pollen filter is removed now. How easy is it to get to the heater box drain?
The cowl problem I had was the little lip on the bottom of the screen was folded between the plastic cowl the wipers come through and it needed to overlap onto the top of it.
The drain is quite easy to get to, take the trim out below the glove box and there should be a pipe connected in the middle of the ducting at the bottom a few inches from where the ECU mounts into place.
Just thought of another possible source is the grommets bringing the cables into the car on passenger side from engine bay, might be worth a look too.
I know the little lip you mean, its rubber, mine is folded down in between too, I'll have a look at those areas tomorrow. its been raining and the water level is not rising so I think I'm winning
What did you need to do to get the sunroof panel out?, one end of the drip tray in mine has broken and it was rattling about. Do you have to take the lining out because that looks a nightmare
Any help would be appreciated
The trim panel for the sunroof slides back to release, You have to partly open the roof to get your fingers on the front edge and pull back. Once released you can turn it and bring it down into the car. The bolts for the sunroof are then visible.
Managed to get drip tray from the stealers, was about £50, fitted it today along with a new sunroof seal, thanks newsh for the instructions, they were spot on. Next question. I take it there is meant to be some sort of clip either side to clip the arms to the tray, is this clip still available to buy or is this another of the ones which is "nla". There does not look like there has ever been any clips, no broken bits or any other bits lying in the tray
I need to pick up this thread again. I have leaks - because I have an Audi Coupe. Now I am tired of fixing leak after leak, so I am pulling the car apart and fixing everything at once. Changed the seal at the boot, the putty at the lights, the seal at the boot lock, one door seal, windshield seal - and so on.
The last one is a leaking sunroof. Also in my car the water comes through the holes the wires goes into at the side of the sunroof (both sides), close to the front of the opening. I have yet to determine if I have the water guard in the rear of the sunroof, but I have owned the car for about 10 years, so I would assume it's there.
So what other reasons could there be for the water coming inside the mechanism? I am one step away from removing the whole sunroof and picking it apart and checking everything out. I am so tired of the leaks, and it has already costed me one complete interior.
The frame that is screwed from the top, is there sealant under there? Or is it suppose to be? Looks like there once was something there, but I suspect I need to remove the sunroof mechanism from the car to inspect it properly.
If the drip tray comes disconnected from the sunroof panel it gets stuck at the back of the slider out of sight. Tilt the panel up, you should be able to look down and see it there, under the rear edge of the panel. If it's not there get a mirror and a torch and see if it's hiding down the back.
Don't bother to unscrew the cover over the cables, it will not help BTDT.
Thanks for the input, will check tonight. If it's not in place, is it just as good to take the complete sunroof mechanism down, rather than trying to fix it while it's up there?
Also; whats keeping water from coming from the draining area to the cables? Is it suppose to be some sealant there, or is the part under the cable covers elevated to keep the water out? (Like I said, I just liftet the covers, and it seems to be some old sealant there that I suspect is not up for the job anymore)
Well, taking out the whole sunrof cassette meand removal of the pillar trims and headlining etc. You should be able to hok the tray with a bit ofcoathanger wire and re-clip it to the sliding part although you will probably need one or 2 new clips. You can take the sunrof panel itself ot buy removing the small interior trim (slide the roof back a few inches, hook your fingers over the front ege of the trim, find the holding clips and push them open then slide the trim backwards into the void) and then releasing the 3 torx bolts each side from inside the car.
A mirror and torch will help you see what's going on and i'm sure there is loads of info on here if you search.
