    Central vent rattle

From behind the central vents there is a rattle that is driving me mad.
What is behind there to check and can you pull them out to look or do you need to remove central trim ?

The ICE was recently replaced which I hoped would cure the problem as an ancient cambus unit was removed which had not ben fitted well !

If only the propshaft and the vent area would shut up for 5 mins I could enjoy the car even more

Sound like you need to pull the stereo forward and have a fiddle

BTDT, I can recommend tying the loom up with tape or tie wraps and even adding foam or bubble wrap to minimise the chances of a rattle.

It does "drive" you insane doesn't it!

    Cheers,

Sorry did not make clear. The rattle preceeded new ICE which I watched been fitted. It is not the cause.

        Oh!

In that case I have no idea

Are you SURE its behind the dash? I know the centre console can make a few noises where the dial surround meets the lower dash? *wildly stabs in dark*

If it is behind the dash then I guess all you can do is take the lower dash panels off, stick your arm up there and see if you can feel any loose panels, wiring or cables etc....

        HTH!

        Cheers,

        Steve.

I have decided its behind the vents as I cannot influence it with vent adjustment, pressing them, closing them, opening them, changing airflow direction however sometimes it goes away after a while when heating on ??!!
But it could just be the vents I guess

Pull out the 3 vents and get your hands down there - drive without the vents for a while.

Right I have pulled them out without grief. Are replacements the whole unit or just the vent units ??

Family album lists the centre vents as seperate to the holder in the dash, each of the 3 vents has the same part number (893 820 957, the same vents were used on the 100's 80/90's coupe's and even the V8)

                    Ben or Martyn will know..

You just grab the vents with your fingers and pull! Also to stop a squeak you could dose the plastic in silicon spray, if it rattles and you can track the rattle then you need these: click here these are in our shop under Aladdins cave, very useful bits indeed!!

Got hold of them with me fingers and pulled. Once one out you can put hand behind others to encourage them !

Now still got rattle and despite holding/pressing various bits of central vent consule holder no solution.

I noticed two bolts. If I remove does the whole unit came out above switches for fogs etc or are there clips or the like I cannot see ??

Checked S2 central and this bit is not covered.

@ Martyn thanks I may well get that tape. It is good for the rattling seat belt adjusters (RS2 is less than S2).
Does this unit come as a whole as I could not spot it on the site ?
