  • KW V3 Setup

I’m really struggling to get any kind of comfort with these, I thought at first, with an adjustable setup I’d be able to soften it for road and stiffen for track but it just seems way too stiff, backing the damping off wasn’t working then I realised the springs (particularly the rear) are so stiff it wasn’t the damping but the spring literally kicking me out of the seat
So I’ve been dialling in more damping to control the springs to the point that I’ve nearly run out of adjustment and now it’s in control but slamming over bumps
Ok the roads are bad round here but at this point I’m thinking of switching back to stock springs, struts and Konis.
The other thing is they’re jacked up all the way just so I don’t get stuck on speed bumps, maybe this is causing too much preload on the spring or restricting travel?
I’m confused because everything I’ve read about KW suggested they’re awesome.
Has anyone managed to get any compliance out of these?

Sounds like maybe you need to dial in the rebound settings?

If its the Coupe then there are two versions effectively with different front spring rates. Perhaps the softer version with 67n/mm all round rather than the stiffer version at 86n/mm front, 67n/mm rear might have been a better option. Perhaps you could get the equivelent springs to swop out.
Suspension feel is a matter of personal preference but seems to relate to the ageing process. Younger - stiffer VS Older-softer!

          It is the coupe.

I wonder how I find out which springs I’ve got?

I bought them from Albert and wasn’t given any options

Hey! There may be snow on the roof, but there’s fire in the cellar!

Tbh the front is not so bad..
I wonder if I have the stiffer springs in the back?

This might help ID them if you flick through it to get the spring ID numbers:

                  Thanks buddy
                  Must be for with/without aircon
Hopefully I got the 67/67 version..
I will pull wheels and check springs

I made some improvements today, the rear rebound is now 3 clicks out from a recommended 9.
Here is the setup now, KW recommended in (brackets)

I just installed my kv3 setup and ran it as it came. It feels great at the moment, at least untill I learn the car anyhow. I do have mine would up almost full in height too, with little droop at the rear meaning it spins up the inside rear wheel easily coming out if bends.

That's strange, mine was un driveable really without adjustment. Des, do you know what spring set you've got?

I have a similar issue with my V1's, I don't think they like being run at the top of their travel. If I hit a bump at speed it compess's fine, but it will rebound far too quickly and almost kick the front end off the ground, feels like it needs way more rebound damping.

I don't have any problems with the V2's. They use a different Koni damper though.

This won't help unfortunately, but just for reference I find my V1s just fine, and I run the stiffer spring rates on the rear. My car is not very low either, I think about 3 or 4 turns from the highest setting from memory, I can go check in a minute.. it is firm but not uncomfortable and certainly doesn't really get upset by anything but the bumpiest B-roads - it feels how you might expect it too I guess. In terms of setting up 3 way from scratch, it can be pretty complex and normally best to start from the softest settings and work up.

EDIT: I have never seen official KW data on the spring rates but I have assumed the p/n e.g. 60-170 meant 60n/mm, 170mm length etc. I could test one on the spring tester at work but not really sure what that would achieve to help

I think my springs were the softer ones as I told Albert the car was fully stripped out with just a cage.
