The shaft is the wrong diameter for the new wheel so that had to be changed. If I use the old switches, the lower cowl doesn't work with the new steering wheel. You can't swap the cowls over either as the design is different. The old wheel has a copper ring for the horn.

You need to swap connector housings and everything except (IIRC) low beam is p&p by wire colors. Pin on low beam ir different diameter, solder or crimp it from donor. I've done this few times.

Glad you've found an answer to your problem Dave, it looks like one of those jobs one kind of wishes they hadn't started, still I'm sure you'll be able to complete it now you have that info.

                It's not gone to plan

I have a thick white wire not mentioned in the guide and my thick yellow wire won't fit where they suggest. This is a can of worms

Oh dear, that's not good, there'd be some airborne tools if I was trying to do that job! I'm sure there's probably a fairly straight forward solution, however as you well know electrical modifications are best not conducted by trial and error. Maybe Alex (Error404) can help, he's pretty hot on this side of things if I recall.

You have to change the crimp on the yellow wire apparently

I have that wire here. The replacement wire comes with both ends crimped, but I only used one end.
PM me your address and I'll send it to you.

A friend translated the document for me and I've changed the pin as mentioned

Thanks very much for the offer but I had a donor car here with the right pin. This is strange as the donor car, 1995 80 cabbie had this very steering wheel but the pin outs were slightly different to the guide. I have tried the guide arrangement and the cabbie but neither works properly. Headlamps don't come on. I will get my multi meter out tomorrow and test what goes where. It's only a bloody switch for God's sake!

I can't remember that I had much difficulties during my swap
Just followed the table per connector old pin to new pin...

what age is your car? This seems the critical factor.

And have you got a pic of the wiper connection?
Looking at your pic you have the red wires different to the guide. I will try that tomorrow.
