Death of a steering damper?

don't forget Chris you have no battery tray in the way on a LHD S2
TBH it would be impossible from above in a RHD coupe too, it has to be accessed from below - therefore can't see what good removing the ABS / master cylinder would be anyway on a LHD car

Very true..... I keep forgetting this... with the battery tray there it would be pretty difficult....
Panzerwagon, if you have no battery in the way, there are no tricks, small ratchet handle, 10 minutes undoes the bolts on the rack end, fiddly for the other, but not difficult... its the access to the brake servo end which is fiddly...Honda CBR 1100XX Blackbird Turbo....undergoing major changes.....
S2 Coupe... bit easier off the line...

The battery tray does have an access port in the bottom of it.Comment

Fitted new Boge steering damper today. I must say the Boge item is loads lighter than the Stabilus OEM damper, but equally stiff - its harder to compress than an ABY Boge turno gas insert i've got knocking about theb garage
I cut a big hole in the battery tray to fit the ******, made life loads easier
Comments following fitment: the car feels more solid and stable, more "audi-like". The steering doesn't get upset by uneven road surfaces and bumps as it did without the damper. IME theres no noticeable decrease in steering feel or feedback.
After running without one for a couple of years and about 3k miles overall feedback is I much prefer the car with the steering damper.

Yup that is what sums it up in a nut shell. It is near impossible on a LHD car with the servo and the other PS components plus the ABS componentry also in the way.
To even see the end of it under all that stuff would take the X-ray vision of Superman!!!

Glad you agree with me.... and that you sorted out eventually.Comments following fitment: the car feels more solid and stable, more "audi-like". Funny how it improves the allover feeling on the steering department isn't?

Thread exhumation...
Just wanted to confirm that the Boge item is part no 22-747-1. Has anyone tried the Febi item 27613 on a RHD? It states the LHD number as the OE equivalent... Any other part numbers?Cheers'en, AndyC
