I am not sure! Yeah check those numbers against the RS4, I think standard RS4 = 'sport' a4/s4q. Also, if you check the bush sizes for the a4/s4q that may tell us something...

Yes the B5 S4 Avant has same 12mm RARB as B4 including S2 - spot that 8A0 prefix on the part number...

Interesting about the S4 Avant rear bar size, I currently have a 2001 RS4 rear bar that I got from a guy who had fitted H&R bars -- thinking it was 17mms.....and it isn't . To the best of my ability( with calipers) they both measure the same. The RS4 is exactly the same size as this B5 factory fit ( but at the time of purchsing in 1999 the 1.8 quattro T Sport was billed as 'tweaked suspension from GmbH ' etc etc so perhaps it really was......

Retail price on the 15mm S4/RS4 bar is really cheap - just confirmed today at £53 retail in the UK (plus VAT).

The Quattro GMBH 17mm bar is still price unknown... apparently when TPS order those bits from them they only get invoiced on delivery for some bizarre reason - so you dont know how much the thing is until you have bought it - makes for a more random shopping experience than I am willing to risk. The 15mm bar looks to me like great value and a useful upgrade for whats going to be a daily duties car - not a flat out / trackday special.

Maybe some of the lads on RS246 have ponied up for the exotic 17mm bar - I'm not registered there - maybe someone else can ask the Q ?

I now run a 21mm H&R rear bar and that is probably as thick as I would want to go. It was another leap over the 19mm Neuspeed I was using.

I can get the support brackets made. They are laser cut replicas of my original neuspeed brackets. Price would depend on quantities being made.

To clarify again - Yes - the B5 RS4 normally shipped with the same 15mm bar as B5-S4 and all other 'sports' B5 quattro models. There was an OPTION for a 17mm bar on the B5-RS4 from quattro gmbh - part number not listed - price unknown.

21mm - OMG - that must be a beast of a thing... How carefully need you drive with that much stiffness at the rear (easy tiger) ?

Sounds like a plan Paul. I will ask my TPS guy to try get a price, he seemed to think they would email a price to him if I had a chassis number to go with.

With regards to the question about how thick is too thick, I cannot say as I still have the stock bar, and it depends on what tyres you have and how you like the car to feel, what suspension you have etc. I currently have 235/45/18 on front and 225 on rear, with H&Rs and stock ARBs. It will not kick the **** out so I will fit the RS2 front bar I have and a 15mm rear to try, at £53 its worth the try.

Ben, can you give us a price for 10 brackets? Maybe we can work from there.

Also, the size is not everything, the length from the bend to the link mount has a lot to do with it too, so compare purely on size would be incorrect.

Just re read that last sentence - Size doesn't matter missus!
