Reading up whatever I can find on a search, it looks like Promounts should come with specifically machined lock nuts to suit, I got mine secondhand so on such nuts. Will have to dig further tomorrow (well this morning actually )

I got two thin lock nuts with mine, as above you have no castle nut as the space is needed for the spherical joint. ....and yes it makes fitting them a PITA.

Thats correct, also the machined nuts are described as 'uni-torque' nuts which are a type of lock-nut.
Although I'd recommend using some thread locking compound too - I had promounts put in when changing front shocks about a year a go and the nuts started to work thenselves loose in a couple of weeks.
If you want to see if you can get the nuts from Mance who makes the promounts, you might be able to contact him on Salinas212@aol.com

Right, that's what I think most of the issue is. I'll have to get on the lookout for some thin nuts.

Fitting is quite simple actually, What we did was assemble teh strut off the car and put the top nut on so that it help it all together, then when you put the weight of the car on the strut you can take the top nut off, fit the top cup and re-fit and torque the top nut. Nice and simple really

Which way round did you fit the 'top hat' sleecve? Rim uppermost or lowermost?

My only remaining concern is whether the rim is to be used as a spacer (lowermost) or a retainer (uppermost).

This picture shows the parts of the mount:-

The Link doesn't work for me, [EDIT: works now] but I'm pretty sure the 'top-hat' sleeve is on top of the mount.
I queried the assembly order after mine started coming loose as I thought maybe the nyloc nut was meant to be on there too. I found the email where Mance replied:

Pro-Mounts are correctly assembled in this fashion:

                    1. Center bushing is inserted from top.

                    2. Pro-Mount w/bushing installed is assembled on strut.

                    3. Machined lock-nut (and no other) is tightened to threaded strut shaft.

                    That's it!

Cheers for the Email, I've chucked a couple of questions to Mance and have included this lovely diagram to clarify the sitation.

I'd have thought I'll receive the same info then! I'd better get looking for a thin section locknut.

Very fast reply from Mance and very helpful too, not a one liner but a description of what he needed from me and what I should look for as a work-around etc. I've supplied the required dimensions and he's working through the iussue with me to ensure that I'm supplied the correct lock nuts (that are ordinarily sent out with the PMs from the factory). He was keen to make sure that the second hand parts that I was fitting were in good fettle (they were unused so no worries there) and TBH I was very impressed

To clear up any confusion, the centre bush sits with the shoulder uppermost (see diagram above), as I've fitted them and then the reduced height nut sits on top.
