    DIY Coilovers

Just looking into this, as there wasn't enough interest in some upgraded springs to make the 25 set MOQ viable, it was a hard ask TBH.

Anyway, I've just had a look at the information I have on VAP (Mance)'s CCK kit, that's the top end stuff. That works out about £400, including taxes and then springs on top, something like a further £80/corner to include helper springs!

Are there any other kits on the market that are suitable? I've seen basic colalr upgrades. Are any of these to a decent standard, or are they going to rust and seize after very little use?

I remember Ground Control being mentioned in the past but I'm not clear whether the price is for one strut, a pair or a full 4 and what else is required.

    Also 2bennett.

Cheers for any ideas / info.

I would say the ground control is for all corners i.e set of 4. It keeps refering to it as a "kit". Once all the parts are present would it cost much to have the welding done? I wouldn't trust myself with that task!!

          What are they cooper?

Any welding would be done by someone I trust rather than me

Just looking into coilover spring rates, lengths etc. Want 400lb front, 450lb rear. Looking like 8" front, 7" rear with 4" helpers.

You still have the issue of the dampers not matching the springs?

Konis are adjustable to be pretty stiff, so while not specifically matched, they will work better than something softer. Obviously, if money was no object, then I'd get something tasty... but it is an object.

I dont think the Koni's will last long with some 400/500lbs springs if i am honest. You need to talk with maybe Carsten if hes not really busy, He might put you on to Michael at KW so he could give you some advice.

I looked into making my own. If there were better dampers for the mcphareson struts i would have.

I asked Michael Grassi's (Head of KW motor sport) at the auto sport show. Advice on this and building my own as a option to use with 500lbs Eibach springs, this was not such a good idea as for the shock valves will not last.

He sent me a list of recommendations i will see if i still have it.

                  Cheers Terry

TBH, even at 300/350lb, they'd be a decent upgrade over the HnRs, especially in corner entry and braking, where the HnRs excessively move.

I have used 160n/mm front and 140n/mm rear and also have a set of 150n/mm for the rear as i have moved alot of weight around.

But these rates are calculated for my dampers.

Also Andy i have a company down here that does plating, you could have the struts coated either Chrome type or the goldish finish the guy will do them for around £50-75 i would have thought this will give protection better than ANY paint.

                            Cheers for the tips chaps

Stiffer springs at the front is fine for a stripped out car but for anything resembling stock, you want equal rate all round, or more at the rear.

sorry rusty i disagree..on a "normal" car yes but on a quattro with the engine overhang i found it better with the stiff ones up front
