has anyone completed this conversion because i've bought the kit from compbrake and had them welding into place but there isn't enough thread out of the top of the top mount to secure it to the vehicle ?

Yeah you might need to machine the spring cap / retainer.
I have to admit I've been too busy with work and other things to do anything with these yet.

Ye i have made it whit h&r springs from h&r coilovers but it wont work whit out the shorter schok inserts....
You can buy them from h&r but thay ware very expensive what i rember and thay us shorter bilstein inserts , bilstein produce them special for h&r......
So i buy,t à real h&r coilover kit thats drive exellent
Not so stiff like KW thay us koni inserts dont like them way to stiff for normale road us

My opinion , iff you must buy al the parts than you better can buy à real coilover kit end off the story much cheaper

i took the top hat to a machine shop and had the centre hole lathed out an extra 10mm got them home and fitted them but the 8" springs that people are saying to get for the rear have given me the standard ride height with the platforms at the lowest point so gotta order some 7" springs

guess you don't need to now.

Here are some of the coilover parts made by Bambridge which I'm testing on the SWB UR.

Also, where can I buy a tool from for tightening up the collars on the B6 Bilstein dampers?

Over all the quality is very good and all the negatives as identified with the Compbrake ones appeared to have been designed out as follows:

The perch has a slot cut out which is used to engage the threaded tube. The collar also has a securing bolt to prevent movement.

The end cap needs plating, but for now it is a good solid fit on top of the spring, although we are going to make a seal at either end to prevent wear.

The Top Mount has a certain amount of poly in there as I didn't want solid ones. The fit is ecellent. You can also see the spherical bearing as well.

Again, from another angle with the top fastener fitted.

This is what it looks like altogether.

The aluminium parts have yet to be anodised and the collar on the top mount now has a grub screw in it so that it won't move when tightened.

Basically, we looked at the Compbrake set-up and hopefully made it better.

NB I didn't want solid top mounts so these are a compramise between the two.

As for price........will let you know.

Any ideas on where to get the tool for tightening the collar on the dampers?

They look good, nice bit of machining going on there.. as for the tightening tool have you tried Merlin motorsport or Demon Tweaks, if they can’t help you they might be able to put you on to a company..

Firstly, the kits looks great well done guys
How are the threaded sleeves fixed to the strut tube to prevent axial movement of the sleeve?
The topmounts look slightly taller than OE ones, obviously not a problem if you are running coilovers but means that they will raise the ride height Vs OE topmounts. What bearings are used in these?

The perch has a slot cut out which is used to engage the threaded tube which is formed to fit into this cut out.

The topmounts are prototypes and can be made to the same height as OEM.

The bearings are a high quality spherical type.........and I'm struggling after that, I'll get Kev to comment further.

Is there any movement of the top mount relative to the top cap? Looks very close!
