    Pas x-head leaking

    Hi,

Changed the screw cap and new washer last night after soaking the seal in fluid for about 9hrs. installed them and fired it up, bled the system doing the lock to lock process and it would appear that the tell-tale sign of bubbles from the x-head screw is back again

Any ideas why, the screw is well seated and I carefully cleaned the mating faces for a sound seal but somewhat p**sed off that straight away i have a weep again.

Any ideas other than pulling the pump off and hurling a decent distance

    Cheers
    David

may be a long shot, but...

since its leaking again, im wondering if there is too much pressure building up on the brake side of the system. There are 2 screws that the hose which is on the top side, that goes to the bomb has, and they have a little mesh in them to make sure that no dirt particles go to the bomb/brake system. Maybe they are too dirty and if the seal of that hose is good, they are pressurising the pump and its leaking from there.

    just a thought...

those bolts can be easily reached and cleaned with some spray cleaner of some sort.

What did you tighten it up with Dave?
Seem to remember a figure of 120nm or there abouts.
I made a tool to get that after to first one I replaced leaked as I couldn't get it tight enough.
I got lucky in finding the real deal tool on ebay, but have misplaced it at the minute.

Welcome to lend the tool I made if you want?

Wow, if its 120nm then i might be a tad shy of that

I'll take a nosey in the garage and see if i can wind it up, if not then will definately take you up on the offer Jas....

and yes, i HATE the green stuff, i hate the smell, i hate the way it coats everything, i hate the fact it always comes back lol

The filter on the top banjo had a bit of gunk caught which i cleaned but otherwise the fluid was clean and bright as about 3yrs old

on another thread on motorgeek, they used a drag link socket of 3/4s to do the job.

i already emailed the garage to see if they have something similar to do the job next week.

Don't you just hate when you can't find something

So, who wants my improvised tool first?

Dave, we had some success using two washers with the RallyRep. But ultimately, with that we were (as 80Avant has suggested) running way too much pressure on our non-standard set-up.

just tried nipping it up a bit more but still a little stream of bubbles...i hate the p/steering system on these cars

Also the alternator is sounding like a supercharger whine and i have a tappety sound from the back of the head. Will change the oil/filter and see if she quietens down or it has another issue to present to me

TBH as it seals with an O-ring it shouldn't need to be that tight.
Did you clean the 2 banjo bolt gauzes?
You sometimes can get a crack in the housing where the X bolt goes, remove the bolt and check carefully.
There are 2 other smaller brass plugs which unscrew with small O rings on them, these can be perished (from acid wash at the reconditioners) This was what finally fixed mine.

Isn't that a new alternator? Maybe its just the brushes wearing in?
