loose top mount, does this seem normal?

Swapped over to summer wheels and tires and found a whole ton of slop with the strut mount... Not the best video but i have a good 1/4 inch of movement and the only loose thing is that damn strut mount moving around...

fwiw they are 034 density ones with 4-5k miles.

I had the same problem with my ex coupe even when those top mounts were new.
Had to toss them away, wouldn´t pass MOT with those.

Only gravity holds the top mount in place, so some movement when the wheel is in the air is to be expected. The movement should equal the gap between the body and strut top cap visible in the car

I dont agree Rusty, when I had OEM top mounts this never happened, I swapped to 034 track density top mounts I had this exact problem which I documented on the forum.

It sems the 034 top mounts are smaller in diameter

The 034 ones are being binned and I have Meyle HD ones

Depends on how secure the rubber section is in the strut as to what moves.

Are the Meyle ones good then? I need some new ones up front after removing the pro mounts.

Rusty, can I ask why you removed your Pro Mounts?

I was trying to locate a clunk and although not caused by the mounts, when I removed them, the bearing has separated from the mount and so I got them replaced under warranty and rather than refit them, I decided to sell and look for another solution.

The mount is smaller and moves around at the top with no load on the wheel

The OEM and Meyle fill the hole up top and dont move with no load.

It's not normal behaviour at all IMO

That makes sense; if the rubber is too small then that's not right. Cheers for clearing it up for me.

Excellent info lads. The left side had zero movement when off, this side had quite a bit that concerned me

the meyle HDs are only $14 usd so that seems like a cheap solution on my end!
