a set of your bearing/mounts? What are they in $ amounts? And as you say they will fit S2/CQ?
Rather get set from you guys then 2 Bennett. I've had bad dealing with the California boys.
Have in my hands a green top mount and blue one. The green one is definitely softer and a fraction shorter - both are new. The blue top is without doubt better for handling - been using them and putting them in peoples quattro car for close to 15 years. The harder rubber flexes less - it is simple physics.
However, for race cars or high power conversions with much uprated brakes, we usually machine up alloy versions. These work superbly and we have race tested them. They are harsher on the road, but surprisingly not by much.

hi,our top mounts do fit an s2 90,s+80,s.im using them on my s2 avant now,the 4000 or series 2 80,s dont have a mount for a strut brace they are easy to fit plates to for camber adjustable top mounts, trouble is on an s2 the strut reinforcing plates mean you cant fit the plates.thats why we did them no one else does as far as i know(no doubt some one will tell me otherwise)i need to check price for you how many do you need.its cost a small fortune to get the tech drawings+machining we will have a patent or trade mark on them....tim

you are right you dont get much extra noise with alloy top mounts, you sound like you know what you are talking about.what i can say is if you want normal mounts go for the blue ones they lower the car slightly and last longer the green ones available from euro carparts/german+swedish etc dont seem to last.substandard maybe .blues are available through vagparts or dealer only...tim
I am not surprised that solid ones are hardly any harsher than stock. The significant proportion of compliance during 'bump' comes from the spring/damper combo and the top-mount combination is minute. Changing compliance of something in the system as small as the top mount is going to have negligible effect overall.

So, I have 14.25" rotors, 6 pot calipers and race pads. I can pull in excess of 1.5g's on street tyres during braking. Price me up a set of solid topmounts becasue I am ****** off with blues and greens failing within a few thousand miles.

Despite being a negligible effect on the system in MY car (when considering compliant tyres and other suspension elements), it is the fact that they fail far too quickly that really gets to me. They are both absolute rubbish (greens and blues).
Besides, I am not a wnaker with with the steering and any marginal increase in lateral stiffnes in a topmount over the distance of single figure mm with a strut length of several hundered mm is not noticable when you are progressive with the steering. Jerk the steering from side to side and you may feel something, but who drives like that?

do you know if top mounts will make an s2 pull to the left?all four wheels are within spec.
Exactly what's happening with mine... big style! The same happened on my old Golf and it took several trips to garages and 'specialists' before I decided that it must be due to the top mounts sagging and giving a weight shift of the car towards the left. It was and new front mounts solved the problem. The front left is the topmount that takes a hammering around every roundabout you ever go around (clockwise and in UK) so wears out quicker than the rest. Used to get 9 months or so out of the ones on the Golf .
Glad to see this thread has reverted the the good old blue vs. green debate . It would appear that there is no central opinion but from what I can gather the blue ones are better providing you don't expect the moon on a stick from them and if you do then either of the OE top mounts is not up to the job in hand. I'll report how my green ones fair with standard springs, Konis and me driving miss Daisy! (Well it is a 'bling' pearl white coupe )

Front left are the ones that fail on me every time too. Makes the car very vague on the road. C'mon Imsatim, lets see those pictures as I need something better!
