thinking about it the stock ones arnt very well protected, remember when youve took them off to find all the tiny ballbearings have rusted away, the rose joint will last a lot longer,is this why salt laying trucks and jcb,s use rose jointed arms and hyd rams...tim

imsatim!! You out there?! AudiWorld Forum seems to think your strut bearings....

are destructive to the strut tower!! They say it will either hammer the crap out of it or just destroy the top of the strut itself. Is there anything I can say to them too refute their assertations and in the same cause calm my new found fears of your strut tops. Is there some sort of rubber ring to absorb some of the impact against the tower?

            Panzer,
I said that on AW because if you look at a rally car, they use something similar that is welded in place. Eventually, it mangles the tower, but that's during hardcore rally-driving. I am interested in what people think about these strut tops and how they perform. I wouldn't mind a set if they are proven to be fine on the road, but we have road cars here. I was simply saying that it might transfer too much shock and vibration through the chassis.

NoNonsense you brought up a very intelligent & important question.

You are one of the few people I listen too on that frat-boy site. When you raise a question or suggest something I read it over and over again and take what you say with great seriousness. I unfortunately jumped the gun on this purchase and you have given me a wake-up call. What would I do without you? I'm still waiting for imsatims response to your concerns.

                Panzer,
No worries, my friend. I just read through this entire thread (every single post), and it sounds like a few people are already running these top-mounts with good results. Don't get me wrong, Panzer, I am very interested myself because during the spring, summer, and fall when I autocross every weekend and do track events here and there, I go through one set of greens in less than a month and it's a real PITA to change those all the time. I have been working with a rally mechanic to make an alloy top-mount, with a stainless ball bearing pressed into the middle. I was also looking for some sort of poly cushion for underneigth, but it's very difficult. Don't forget, I have the V6, too, which is heavier than your I5. On my car, the blues are good, but virtually desintigrate within one track event. I will be watching this thread as it evolves. =)

hi all sorry for the delay replying,i run these mounts on a road s2 avant it has lowered suspension kw fully adjustable height+damping,i use the car every day.i havnt seen my strut tops appearing through the bonnet yet,i think there sesms to be some confusion in the mounts.the shock transmitted through a road wheel is absorbed by spring+damper not the strut top on its own,it may be if you dont use springs or dampers and have a solid link from wheel to strut top,you could punch it through the tower.the comment on the rally mounts is a fair one, with one missing point.to fit these you have to cut out the top of the tower/weld in an outer ring and mount the bearing plate to the underside, the loading force is only applied through the weld around the mount plate, ours on the other hand retains all the original tower this has a reinforcing piece under the wing .we could hav gone with the rally type mount but we decided it wasnt worth cutting the strut tops away....tim

hi,all another interesting point if you open your bonnets and look at your strut tops you will see the securing washer on the strut top has a gap under it,our mounts positivly locate with a securing ring.on my regular run home from work, the council painted lines on the road to slow you down,on these my cd player jumped, now with these mounts it doesnt.i know panzer will be happy as are a few people are already...tim

imsatim, question about part on the strut mount????

Referring to the pix that has been posted where the unit's parts are diaplayed , what is the washer on the far left used for & where does it go? Is it used to hold down the round nut on the strut shaft?

Good information, Tim. Thanks for clarifying those points. Obviously the strut and spring absorb most of the shock, but when the shock gets bottomed out, the vibrations inherantly goes to the strut top...that's why mine get destroyed so fast.
Do you have any V6 folks using these mount yet? If so, have you gotten any feedback yet? I hope it didn't seem like I was shooting down your product, because I am truly interested myself. It's going to cost me more money to make them through a local source than buying buying them from you...plus, I always prefer to help out a fellow forum member! =)
