    power steering pump/ alternator mods

we have been useing mr2 pump on the rally car for at least 3 years now , we got the idear from javad at 034 motorsport. are pump came from a mid 90s car it had a ecu sor speed sensors ,but we just connected to a switch . The pump pressure can be adjusted underneath for personal preference , we fitted it for 2 reasons to shift weight from the front end , we have mounted it behind drivers seat the pipe work wasnt much longer and any hydraulic hose company can make you the pipes [ + the return isnt under pressure] it didnt save much overal weight but at the same time we moved the alternator to the rear so that it runs off the rear prop shaft flange at diff, this got 15kg off the front end. the 2nd reason we made these convsertions was now we dont have any belt , think its something like 5 bhp. our next step is to get the alternator wired so that it only works when the brakelights are on, we will also have a switch to revert back to normal charging system so that we can use that between stages on road sections sorry bit off topic, also these mods no good for a road car

I have to do something with relocating my PAS pump as I'm using one V belt to run the pump and alternator and it's causing the belt to fail frequently. Does anyone have any pics of relocating the pump to the side where the aircon motor would have been? The turbo to intercooler hose runs in this area too so I recon there will be some additional plumbing of boost hoses as well as extending the PAS hoses. As an option I've looked at converting to the ABY serpentine pulleys and AAN belt tensioner but that leaves me with little room for my oil cooler

So much to do, so little space

I ran a 106 elec pump and an mr2 pump, now i've gone mack to the original belt driven one.

I found both pumps worked the power steering fine but the brakes were intemittent with both pumps, this didn't inspire a lot of confidence in the car so i switched back.

Both pumps were single stage so to run the steering and brakes i piggybacked the banjo bolts on top of each other.

From memory the noise was fine, nothing too obtrusive.

It was the easiest of the 2 pumps to mount because it has the built in reservoir and if your pulling it off a 106 yourself make sure you get the anti vibration mounting bracket and the waterproof relay. It makes installation easy .

I also run a 106/ saxo pump in my car. It works fine, the noise is drowned out by the rest of the car! I don't use mine for the brakes.

Do systems that use those pumps require any kind of cooling of the oil? Or it doesn't get too hot?

I run a cooler on the return line just to be sure it doesn't get too hot.

I ran the Peugeot 106 pump and the Toyota mr2 pump piggybacked through the fuel pump relay so they ran all the time the engine was running, no controllers.
