I have had the compbrake type mounts on my motor for years and they are still fine. Not as nice as the units Rusty is making but readily available and not too expensive. The units I have weren't made by compbrake so I can vouch for the bearings they use.

I guess this could stem from a number of things:So when these were new cars and under warranty Audi must have done there nut replacing these top mounts.I just don't remember this problem being an issue back then and I used to buy all the car mags. I well remember the B5 ign coil issues. I have changed these top mounts once before but didn't do many miles in that car after the change as it was a 3 rd car but do remember what a big improvement it made with all new gen Audi suspension parts. How about some clever person on here looking at other sports orientated cars from other manufacturers that have proven top mounts and available for a reasonable price. Mercs were well known for isolating the road surface from sensitive ears and fragile bottoms. Just a thought.
1. stock profile tyre maybe had more compliance and road surfaces were better so less wear
2. No interweb, so less public customer noise so less likely to be visible
3. Volume of TSB's from all manufacturers and they had to decide what to include - there was no risk of fire/death/leaving the road etc so not newsworthy
Always been a sore point on here and on the yahoo groups (anyone remember them
) before the forum was born.

as per my post on the Items For Sale pages ( section re-Meyle HDs ) Mount savers are the way to go ...2x 3mm thick rings, one urethane + one alloy , drop into top of mount in that order, mount lasts for years ....trouble is, Mance in the US has stopped making them...surely its not a difficult job to make them ( knowing the durometer rating of the urethane that is which I don't )...put out an ask for them on MG or Q Forum in the States, I did and got a set which I have had on the rears for year and half now
I put a link on the above For Sale page to Mance's photo of them in a set of PM mountsComment

I keep looking at the comp brake ones but do not like the idea of metal on metal. That's why I was hopeful of some ba bridge ones with the poly inset collar. I have also considered using mk1 audi TT poly ones as I run coil overs so just adjust them to accommodate the extra height.Comment

Yup those are the ones. Bearings are replaceable so the units are serviceable. The rest is solid billet alloy so there's not much to go wrong with them.91 Modded 3B

I've been playing with some Leon R topmounts which can be made to work with coilovers with minor modifications - same size as the TT & Mk IV I believeI keep looking at the comp brake ones but do not like the idea of metal on metal. Think I'm going to try some out when I get round to reassembling the suspension
I also considered making some out of Acetal - a touch more forgiving than billet ally

Ive got some new tt bearings so may well give the polys a go. Will you use the cupra retaining nut or original castle nut.
Corrado ones look very similar too..Comment

Ive read a number of threads on mk4 boys using 80 top mounts to drop te front 15 mm. Therefore using the mk4 set up on S2 struts should work well. I can obviously adjust my coilovers to lower the front theinch or so. I may well order some poly top mounts MK4 bearings and the required nuts. Watch this space.Comment
