  • Whiteline rear ARB

Those of you with long memories may remember that I ordered the Whiteline rear ARB from Demon Tweeks back on the 2nd June. Well it finally arrived from Australia yesterday, and wonder of wonders it actually fits!!!
I just finished putting it on, I dont know how much different it will be but probably not as effective as Marco's, Doug's or Toms heavy duty versions. I can't be bothered to try it out now so I'll see tomorrow.
I got the adjustable version, which if I am right is supposed to give the equivalent of a 20mm bar (its actually 18mm). It has three mounting holes on each end for the droplinks, It does'nt come with instructions so I don't know which will give the stiffest setting, but I'm guessing the end one so thats where I've connected it up to.
I took some pics of it yesterday and tried to take one tonight of it on the car, but the F@£king cameras packed up, great timing with CC coming up

The end holes will give you the LEAST stiffest setting - think of the arms as levers

It looks like a good piece of kit - How mucho did it cost?

Cheers Doug, I'll experiment with it, it cost £86.32 from DT's.

Mik, its the one listed as Whitelines adjustable version for the S2 B4 quattro, code BAR 14Z. a bit vague I know so I took a chance and ordered it hoping that it would be right for mine, i.e. Coupe, got lucky .

This is interesting, its Whitelines conversion chart showing the percentage difference in stiffness when going to a thicker bar.

If standard front ARB is? 26mm in dia (RS2 28mm), rear 14mm... That would mean something like 1000% stiffer rear ARB when changing front ARB to rear
18-20mm in dia for rear ARB could be much better, not too stiff yet, so that whiteline ARB could be a very good choice. Waiting for test results...

We are judging these %ages on the info supplied by Whiteline. It says that ARB has to be same shape, same materials et, etc.

Burning question is, MARK WHAT'S IT LIKE!!

Back end sliding fun, or just less understeer.

Remember with the front ARB on the rear, you also increase the length of the arms on each side.

So you say it is 1000% stiffer but if the arm is twice (this is a guess) as long, it will be half as stiff - you also have the long arms on both sides so it's a quater of the stiffness - Now we are down to it being 250% stiffer, than the original which sounds good to me.

Things are not very black and white with these things...

First of all "twist stiffness" of a bar changes at 4th power depending its diameter...

                              Sorry, bad English
