Yeah, I've read that fitting thread - I think thats where someone mentioned getting backlash set up - but curious whether others have done it.
Just need to get a pair of oil seals for the V8 flanges and I'm ready to go.. . . .
Backlash needs checking for sure - mine was a bit "loose" but within spec so i left it. I'll rebuild the diff at some point and put new bearings so it'll get sorted then.
You can't really check the bearing pre-load without disassembling the bearing races from the casing, removing the adjusting washers and measuring the stack height and axial play in the bearings - needs a press to do all of that but pretty straight forward. I think as long as there is no axial play once the TORsen is installed and it turns smoothly it'll be fine

But I suppose if you check the backlash and it is way out you'd still have to press the bearings out to adjust the backlash by swapping the shims behind the bearings from side to side? Is that right?
I think backlash is the amount of movement between the crown wheel and the drive pinion (pinion held stationary and crown wheel rotated back and forth) and my understanding is that it can be adjusted by moving the crownwheel closer or further from the pinion (side to side) by redistributing the shims behind the bearings from one side to the other.
The movement of the diff innards from side to side in the casing would be a function of the total amount of shims behind the bearings (bearing pre-load) so if bearing pre-load is 0.25mm there should be 0.00mm movement plus then you add another 0.25mm of shims.
This is just what I've gathered from other threads so I'm happy to be corrected if I've got it wrong..
the proceedure to set up the diff is calculate bearing preload then to measure the backlash and distribute the bearing shims as neccessary between the outer races.
