No Torsen in type 85 cars, apart from quattro turbo 10V (MB) and 20V (RR). Final drive on those cars though are 3.89:1, so no good for S2, unless you replace the rear differential with one from the Ur quattro.
016 transmission with Torsen and similar overall gearing as the S2 (4.11:1 and 24.7 MPH / 1000 RPM is the one fitted to Audi 100 quattro turbo (type 44 from 1988 - 1991)Never show a fool a half built house.

First thing is a wide gear, the flexible shafts are secondary.
I'm kind of leaning towards a 016 locker for a future project. However, I'd like to try a car with 300-ish hp, a locked center and decent suspension before I make up my mind.
Also, once again.. The link that I posted - it's REALLY worth looking at. That is one useful page, lads!Comment

I looked into that one, it is really interesting site. There are so many different gearboxes. I really like to have a 6 speed box. But it must be capable of taking some serious abuse.
But what about the installation, are all boxes easy to install?
Thanx,

As I stated in my previous post - its DGV. Torsen, straight fit if you have a car with a 01E, you'll need the linkage parts from the S2 though. They are cheaper than Rs2's and S4/RS4's at least in Sweden.Originally posted by Billman@Henka
What is the Gearbox Letters for the A8 gearbox? Is it with torsen and a straight fit? Do you have this info?Comment

I personally think you are wrong. You are wrong in the sense that the application decides what gearbox you need.Originally posted by HenkaFirst thing is a wide gear, the flexible shafts are secondary.

The gearboxes with the wide firstgear has a weaker inputshaft. This gearbox should be good for dragracing with a medium powered engine.
The gearboxes with the narrow firstgear has a stronger inputshaft and is therefor more suited for highpower engines used on trackracing.
For pure dragstrip performance the old 6E 5 speed gearbox type 81 1983-85 is the probably the strongest and best ratios for this purpose.Comment

I always thought they were the same size. I mean, there is nothing that suggest that it HAD to thinner/weaker due to a wider gear. Does this apply to all gearboxes with a wide gear, flexible axle or not? If so, I see your point as track cars don't generally use first gear and max power output. Anywho, still tempted by the locker though.Originally posted by GringoI personally think you are wrong. You are wrong in the sense that the application decides what gearbox you need.
