OT: Help! Typ85 cq/urq firewall crack

    Hi,

Yesterday managed to start just another typ85 coupe q with swapped turbo motor. And the joy of the event was smashed by the bad news - no clutch!

Check revealed obvious thing - firewall is cracked in the clutch cylinder area. Why in the world we haven't checked that when engine was out . That was third swap in my "carrer" and all typ85 I've had put wrench on haven't such thing.

I see that this is quite common problem. 034EFI has even a fix solution which costs a lot (remember I'm from not so rich country). So we want to copy this (materials and especially labour here may be 10x cheaper ):

One thing I don't understand - how that thing bolts to a car? From inside ?

    Anyone BTDT ?

CQ typ85 with AAN inside, see project blog at http://kwlw.blogspot.com

So you are offering to copy somebody elses design and market them and then you cannot figure out how to fit it to the vehicle?

Maybe 034 could get in touch and have the items produced there. That way they would be much cheaper for all?
      Just my twopence worth.

I am sorry but for the money we are talking about I do not find $100 (retail) expensive for this item.
Which is a tried and tested repair if your bulkhead is cracked. This product only applies to LHD type 85's though, I must admit that my LHD ur has never shown any signs of this area cracking (yet!!!) but it is nice to know when it does there is a product available.

lol, yes I guess 100 bucks would go a long way in Lithuania..

I used to own a left hooker urq and almost certainly changed the the clutch master cylinder but I cannot remember how it was mounted. Its 20 yrs ago

20 minute job on a LHD urq at least 6 hours on a RHD urq

The brace supports both the cylinder and the firewall against any undue stress that can occur with the constant pushing of the clutch pedal.

Corey - I think you might be over-reacting a tad... Certainly Sau is keen on copying/cloning this part to save some money. I didn't see any reference to him wanting to market them for financial gain. I know you are only looking after your interests here, but don't underestimate the value of $100 in places like Lithuania. He's just looking for a cheaper fix.

All joking aside - perhaps 034EFI would benefit from an official distributor in Eastern Europe who could also leverage local materials and labour to produce cheaper parts for that market.

Wondered when we'd start seeing people putting there pockets in the way of productive comments.....
Altho looks like someone beat me to it on the currency front and the reasons for his post.

As a rough approximation the UK Pound can buy US Dollars 3x over for the cost it would be for the Lithuanian currency... not quite so cheap anymore if on the flip side you were told that would cost you $300...... I wonder if you might then be posting similar questions.
