Is it just easier to source a 6 speed unit? Or is there a simple mod??

Assume your ditching the spacer and using a single mass.
I used the front half of an Avant prop.

need more info.
but for a CQ/S2, going from an 01A to an 01E and the trans stays in the original location, you need to use a 4kQ propshaft. it is the ~1" shorter to make up for the longer trans. unless you want to push the rear diff back on the subframe that same amount, that would work as well.

I have an ABY coupe prop here I can swap with you if you want Tom - I was going to shorten it anyway to use with my other 0A3 gearbox
It needs CVs as the old ones were shot, but you can just take your old ones off yours and go with them, or I can give you the Lobro p/n for new ones.
Just cover the cost of postPanthero Coupé quattro 20vt

Mate, there's a place in Bristol that will shorten your existing prop and rebalance for just over £100. I'm getting mine done there. Do you still have the same mobile number? PM me if not and i'll call you.91 Modded 3B

Tom, if you’re using your 3B front subframe you’ll need a spacer for the gearbox mount.

A made a lot of spacer investigations for my V8 cause it doesn’t have one, so far I understood the spacer story it’s dependent from the flywheel you will use.
It’s about the height of the flywheel and clutch - I think around 80mm was the limit for the clutch pedal and the reason for the difference is where your trigger wheel and sensor are located.
May this helps you
