Albert, what I am saying is that my sedan will have a B2 tranny which I will custom fit to my car, and i'll add V8 torsens (or quaife - but V8 is much less expensive) to front and rear. Your B2 only has locking center and rear. There is no way right now to put torsen to the front of your 01E.
    I am ditching my 01E and putting in a 016 tranny (B2).
Someone here in the US is working on a LSD for the front of the 01E...but as for now, I don't think there is one unless quaife sells something. You'd have to double check their line-up.

On the road, it depends on how you drive. If you drive like grandma, there's no need for any torsens as open diffs will transfer power equally until there's wheel spin. Since my car is mainly turning into a track car now-a-days, yet road legal to get to and from events, i have no concern about an open diff in the middle because it'll be locked as soon as i hit the road course!

the b2 tranny does NOT have the torsen in front, and the v8 rear lsd P/N will NOT fit in in front b2tranny.... :mischeif: BUT maybe the lsd center diff from the newer tranny may be used on the older ones.... do you have the gearcode on the b2tranny?? stands on the edge at the clutchhousing...
the code will tell some more.... the b2 tranny will fit in all the audicars, but some changes are about the clutches, and propchafts, gearlinks, and so on......

About the V-8 torsen in the front gearbox, doesn't the diff in the trans mount 180 degrees from the way it is in the rear diff? If so, will the torsen still function properly turning in the opposite direction it was designed to turn?
I have had a look on Charlies transmission website & another alternative for a LSD or torsen in the trans could be from the Porsche 944 transmission

I've used the centerdiff in a Formula SAE car. It will take ALOT of work to be able to mount it as a front diff in ANY Audi gearbox. It does not look like the rear mounter diff at all. Forget it. But - a rear diff should be possible to machine to fit in the front. Loads of work though. Now - a Porsche 968 LSD should be way to go.

you guys are missing my point
Quattro cars have three (3) diffs. one front, one center, one rear. I have seen the V8 torsen machined to be placed in a B2 front diff. The center remains open/lockable. the front won't just drop in, it needs work...

Henka, that's what I am talking about. I said I'd take the V8 torsen rear and adapt it to fit the front diff (not the center)...it's hard to mess around with the center diff...that's why i am changing the tranny all-together.

Yep, it will work spinning backwards since basically ther's just a couple of gears in side and no ramps of moving parts relaying on rotation/direction.

I'm going for a rear Torsen. No center diff and LSD fore and aft? It'll be a BEAST to drive - but hey, it's probably do-able. You are going to need loads and loads of power though. Trackday and normal use (Beemer spanking) a rear mounted LSD will do the trick.

it's also hard to say which 944's got the LSD diff. It wasn't available on the vanilla 944, but was an option for the 944 turbo. a good dismantler will know, but I haven't found one yet, this is why i am resorting to the TorSen V8 route.

                        950.332.063.00 Torsen Differential

??? does it meen that if I would find the proper Porsche gearbox with 2WD 01E transmission I would be posible to use the LSD form it and put it to my 01E gearbox in Audi my love ?

Check the P/N of the bearings. Check if the P/N of the open diff of a Audi matches the P/N of the Porsche 944/968 version. If so - yes.
