Hey... BTW - anyone know what the difference between the Coupe housing and the Avant/Sedan housing is? I mean, the rearmost part, P/N 017 520 53N and 017 520 53E - they look the same but are they? Or rather - will the snout off a Avant bolt on to the rear part of a coupe? Juuuuuust curious...

Ouch... Now you guys can't have much confidence in me right now, huh? Geez, and I already apologized once. I mean how hard can it be... F-word, f-word, f-word... Yes, it should be 525 and not 520 as I said.

Got and answer from TMS (see previous post)

                    Hi Rafael:

We used QUIAFE LSD front and rear, and stock on the center. On the old 5 speed we did not need to modify anything.

On the 6 speed we had to make slight modification to the front and rear to make it fit properly. It worked excellent, like a whole different car.

You can contact us at 661-299-5224 or send us your tel. number and we can explain more.

                    Comments please

EDITED: Can any of the US guys call to get info on this?
Telephone costs, hour difference and different language makes it hard for me to get a good answer here of what is need it to modify.

I suspect we need Quaife P/N used by them and what modifications.
Still I don't understand what is different on the rear between the 5 speed and 6 speed?

If somebody is going to call please let me know. Otherwise I will try my best to find out more about this.

                      Hello all,
I have '85 A80 GTE quattro with LSD in the rear installed (it looks pretty similar to this, from V8, but I don't know who made it)
                      drives very nice on gravel

                      regards,
                      HD

                        New answer from TMS

                        Rafael:

No problem. The difference onthe 6 speed is the front diff, the casing is not large enough for the bearings, so some parts have to be machined.

buying new parts form quife is no problem, finding a front torsen, just like the back one from v8, that would be awesome news. It would be much cheper than quife ATB.

                            V-8 Torsen vs Quaif

I too spoke to the folks at TMS. I spoke with Georges father. He said that the Quaif would "lock faster" than the v-8 torsen diff. To install the Quaif in the rear diff he said to remove the diff locking mechanism (from the coupe style rear diff) & again some minor machining & a "bushing" to fit the diff case. Another small piece of the puzzle.
                            Chris
Almost forgot. He also said that Quaif told him that they did not make a Quaif for the newer style 5-speed & 6-speed but that he knew that the gearbox differental for the 4000, 5000 (USA) models were similar to the later style gearbox differentals.
