I have both a 6speed master and a 5speed master (from my 10v) the only difference as far as i can see is that the 5speed one has a pin and clip rather than a nut and bolt where it attaches to the pedal lever, which IMO is a better design as it can freely pivot. Everything else looks to be identical. Bore size looks to be the same also. HTH?

Just got supplied a 4 A0721401 Rather than the 8 A0721401 It fits A6 A8 v8 and many other models

The only difference I can see is that the push rod does not have the bush on it, Which is why I am fitting a new one, the second so far

Will remove the original from my car and compare to make sure they are the same

Does it anyone know if it can be fitted to replace 8 A0721401, Has it been tried

What are they trying to achieve with the bush ? Beside having to replace the unit every 2 years !!!

You were lucky with 2 years - just under 1 year since I put in a new one and can feel it going again this mornig

Made it to work on mainly clutchless gearchanges but not keen on driving much further, last time I ignored it for a week I ended up needing a tow to the mechanic ... I'm beginnig to think you need a spare car to have an S2 as a daily

                  that sounds about right.

I'm just sorting the prices out but have a new push rod design for those wanting to replace the rod and a brace that stops the flex in the rubber joint in the first place. Looking at about £35 delivered for a 6 speed replacement rod in the UK and £30 delivered for the brace with 2 CSK screws. Much heaper than a new 6 speed item from VAG. When I get the prices sorted I'll order some up.

Having seen a 5 speed and 6 speed, the rubber joints are identical and so I must conclude that it's a manufacturing fault on the rarer, more expensive 6 speed items

Would this be able to be used as a replacement in a broken one? and what sort of timeframe?

Yes, the brace is to protect working units, the rod is for non-working units and dispenses with the rubber jobbie.

Time frame... I'd hope about Christmas time but I can't promise anything as the manufacture is out of my control...

                      I'll send you and email

Getting it checked out next week.. Checked the reciept and the last one was fitted 28 Nov last year, at AU$500 for the part I'm hoping there's a 12 month warranty on the part..

I take it the 5 speed is different to the A6/A8/v8 one fitted by jade?
I might get one of those if I cant get the standard one replaced..

As far as I can tell, the only difference is the thread for the yoke that connects to the pedal. I've not managed to check the bore of a 6 speed though.

Any progress on this one Rusty? I wouldn't mind doing this as a preventative fix rather than waiting till next time it breaks...
