But isn't that the usual rattle of the single mass flywheel ? Or is it the bearing?

I don't remember your car rattling on idle last time I was in. Is it that bad?

I've still not bought one yet for my build, can't make up my mind which to use..

It's a shame as this difficulty getting gears in now is becoming annoying and with the wife needing the car makes it more crucial to have a more robust solution. I just don't want the car to be a musical ornament when idling

Not sure if it's the bearing or not, but it did seem to get worse when I fitted the new bearing.

I'll change it again when the engine comes out!!

So you will be going back to a plastic one again?

I see. If people are taking it out because of the rattle that means it must be quite uncomfortable.

Brian is hating me already with all these jobs!

Bump to this. I have bitten the bullet with this and ordered the INA bearing from Helix. With the uprated SRE pressure plate exerting a lot more force on the bearing face I can't see the OEM plastic lasting long, as others have found. With any luck the INA one will hold up. If it fails I think I'll go hydraulic like the Tilton one Pat is using.

I went with the 034 bearing Alex, there wasn't enough clearance to use that Tilton, and I couldn't find another make/model that would fit for standard type pressure plates.

Just checked my notes and I measured my pressure plate fingers protrude 81mm into to box went mated up. Distance from box mating face to the top of the 3 bolts that hold the bearing guide piece on was 122mm. So there is around 41mm to fit a bearing in there(spec stage 3 disc and stage 5+ pressure plate), a little more if removing the guide piece if a different type of hydraulic bearing is to be used. The tilton's minimum height was higher than that iirc and a no go without some mods, I thought about milling the inside of the box which I don't think there is enough material there, or making the flywheel thinner, but then I'm not sure if there's enough spline depth on the input shaft if the clutch were an extra 10mm away

                Gave up on that one

How about using the ABY gearbox spacer?

Haha I actually found the one I thought I had thrown away

I wasn't sure if the clutch distance being further away on the input shaft was going to work and I never verified it. Also, being a heavier tall deck block I thought it would be better to keep it back as far as I can

Yup very true. Well I think for the low mileage I do with my car I'm hoping the metal INA one does the business.

                        Great minds

What is the quality of the INA item like? They're a proper manufacturer, so I'm tempted.

Did you also get the needle bearing?

Quality seems very good it has a nice weight to it compared to a used OEM Sachs one.
I already had a new Sachs needle bearing and that has been installed in the flywheel already

I'll get one of those on order. Got lots of bits to buy for the new engine!

so are the INA the ones Helix make? Which one are you getting Rusty?

The one from Helix is an INA bearing
