ive seen the ones from the states dont know which make they are, but theyre apparently very good, but it does away with the mechanism which only lets you select reverse by pressing down on lever
could be nasty.
one other thing to remember is that the s2 transmission doesnt seem to like to be rushed. I seem to remember someone saying that it actually made it worse with a short shift - very clunky and jerky:eek2:
I'll let you know how it works! I ordered one of those about 6 weeks ago! :eek2: I sent him a US Dollar bankers draft as per his request.. cost me £20 just for that!! HOWEVER!!!!!
It hasn't arrived and he isn't answering my e-mails!!!!
???????????????????????
I got one of the 'Billcatz' short shift kits from ebay about 5 months ago. Yes there's no reverse detent, which was a bit concerning at first, so I wired up a low frequency warning tone to the reversing light ( a la Lexus IS200, same shift patten, same possible selection error! ). So I'm in no doubt when I'm in reverse now. It avoids launching the car while in reverse..... that would be a real hoot for everyone else !
The quality of the shift was a little sticky at first until the OEM bearing bedded down and I'd wondered if I'd done the right thing... but now the shift is quick, smooth and precise. If your gearbox is fresh, you won't experience a slow shift 1st to 2nd like I do, every other shift is crisp.. excellent.
I think it's a stock VW shift bearing, Josh put a post on 'RS246' after I'd rated mine there, so he might be able to offer a little more info. Josh ?
I've got a stripped out Scirocco for blasting around the lanes. This short shift looks like it uses a Scirocco MK2/Golf MK1 gear level bearing. Is this true? How is it modified? What additional parts are there. If it is scirocco/golf then I'm sure it would be cheaper to knock one together from new or scrapyard-sourced parts. Anyone have any more info?
Cheers, Lee

I have the billzcat on my cq here in the States. Although I don't have an S2 tranny/turbo etc. I can vouch for improvement over the stock setup. I can't give you a percentage of reduction, but it was noticeable and it greatly improved the sloppiness of the shifts. Granted, anytime you replace a 13 year old part you are going to notice a difference....
Pretty good Paul! the length of shift throw is reduced by about 30-40% I guess. It's a real nice 'snick' gear change now :-). Gear change is quicker without a doubt and feels smoother than it used to be, but I really do have to stress the reverse gear issue is cause for concern! That aside I think it great!
