Strangely enough I bought mine off Trist in Wales and brought it back to Surrey, he'd bought it off a bloke in Surrey

      Agreed.

Car itself should be more important than the distance, bought my second one from near Southampton.

Yep I would agree too if you want the right car distance should not be a problem, I got my URS6 in Cardiff and my RS2 was from Sussex both times flew down by plane and then flew home in the Audi.

Have to agree.... I have done several Europe trips to get the right car. Average 2000-2500 miles each trip

Forgot about Newsh's one. Worth going to look at too. All very different even though essentially the same car. Dont be afraid to ask if anyone is local to the car you like to do an initial inspection and then if it is good its worth going to visit mind you all 3 cars I have mentioned here are worth looking at in person straight away as they are all going to be very good!

              Cheers Newsh, nice car.
Just waiting for some photo's of Acidburn's s2avant, which he says will be this afternoon.

Regarding acidburns car- she has covered some 200k+ miles, and I'm not particularily concerned about this, but; (and knowing Peter will undoubtedly read this (Hi Peter!!), anyone else have any views?). With this car- can I go with the view that running gear can be relatively easily replaced if worn, but rot is generally terminal? I am really interested in this car- just want a 2nd opinion.

A car with 200k on it is not going to be any worse than a lower mileage car if it is looked after and i believe it will have been if its a member from here. Saying that i came across a 55 reg Vauxhal Meriva the other day with a severe case of tappetts so obviously treated terribley and not looked after. Mileage is not an issue so long as its looked after and these cars are fairly tough. These will go on forever!

Generally speaking Mileage will just affect resale value i guess, which isnt a problem if you are looking to keep.. providing cars been looked after.

                    Thanx Again,
Acidburn's car came 'recommended' by S2F members, and as I said, mileage is not a huge concern to me - your reply was what I wanted to hear!
                    Cheers!
                    Tony.
ps (and you lot are gonna want to string me up for this!) I would want to- very occasionally- tow a caravan with her. Anyone know the Unladen weight/max towing weight?

Haha, Top gear challenge style? As in Crash it or set it on fire???

When my Mum got a caravan she asked me to tow it as my car is the only one powerful enough and I said no so her partner got a car that could. Mind you I like the idea of being able to tow my Beetle off the back on a trailer so I dont have to drive it haha!
