Oh yes and don't fit a dump valve! You need to keep the recirc valve or the fuelling will be wrong.

As mentioned, a dump valve isn't great for the engine management. A OEM 710N diaphragm style valve works just fine, but if you want something a bit more robust, then a Forge 007P piston valve is a good option, you can serivice and rebuild these.
If your after the noise then you can get splitter valve which dumps a little bit of the air and recirculates the rest, or a better option is to modify the air box to make it a bit more free-er flowing, this will in turn give you a orchestra of weird and wonderful noises .

It'll all happen over a long period of time. Once we've done one thing, we'll let the bank acount fill and then we'd do the next thing.

Think of 996 brakes (or RS2) as safety-related items not as performance upgrades! They will save your bacon and should have been on the original car IMO.
