    power amp problems

I put a direct amp D2400 in an audi coupe with 2 12inch jl speakers and the amp was constantly cutting out - wiring was checked and was fine. Had amp sent off for testing and they put it on the bench and said amp is fine. The put the same amp in my s2 and same thing keeps happening until it completely cut out and all the fuses melted. Now i bought hcaa orion 12 inch single speaker and orion d2400 monoblock amp to drive it. amp is cutting out again! Took it back to shop - they did tests which showed everything was fine but then swapped for alpine amp to see if it would make any difference . Next day showed my friend the new amp and it cut out ! Took it back and got my orion back as i prefer it. Seems like these cars are allergic to loud music ! Or am I jinxed. My s2 has 120 alternator so what is the problem??!!! Is there a power problem.
My electrician said he will try to solve this and he said dont spend money buying a power cap til problem properly diagnosed but he is puzzled himself....

My alternator was reading 1368 when the amp is off then drops down to 1290-1306 with amp kicking

the head unit can go up to 50 but it will cut out at 10, 15, 20 - it doesnt always turn on remotely when you switch on the head unit so what i do to resolve this even when it does cut out as well is give the amp a slap and it gets going ! this is annoying when you wana go somewhere and it cuts out coz i hav to get out my seat and climb to the back of the car at a red light! Used to do the same for the other amp too - i swear its coupes that dont like a system in them..!

Just kidding, sounds like you have a bad connection, either power or ground, where are you taking the power from and where are you grounding to?

What's the power supply requirement for the amp? (in current or power)

I have had similar problems and it was the earth cable not up to the job and not grounded to the car body correctly. I would carefully check your earthing requirements and the way you have it connected.

                    Cheers.

remote signal from headunit........probably not as also has the same problem with a different head unit!

bad connection or overheating.......wiring has been checked and tested - seems fine - amp doesnt get that hot

                      power supply 12V

Im taking the power from the battery and grounding to the chassis

You need to use a volt meter and check the voltage on the terminals of the amp.

The voltage on the REM, and the voltage at the amp.

Also what gauge wire are you using? Because it also sounds like your wiring could be too small and the current demands of the amp are not being met.

BTW you alternator should be putting out over 14 volts when the engine is running.

!st of all you need to make sure u got 4guage cable into the amp. The earth should be 4 guage as well. If you are using 4guage cable change ur earth point. Where are your amp gains set to?? If they are over half turn them to min and then test it. Measure your sub coils make sure they are not short. Are u connecting the subs correctly to the amp??

just 2 update - my electric guy came round and tested all wiring on car and power, remote fine, voltage fine - turned up to 30 and it cut out ! so he says it must be the amp - but what r the chances of 3 diff amps being faulty...?!! wot a pain in the rear end!
